Nvidia's Geforce GTX 770 comes close to the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition

Still would you really go out and buy a 770? a rebranded 680 which is over a year old now and still can't hold its own against a 7970?

No you wouldn't, you would get the 7970 with the game bundles and laugh in joy.

You'd be surprised how determined some nvidia gamers are to stay green. the most common phrases used these days are framerate latencies (true only for crossfire users and the selected few who've been gifted with being able to spot the difference) and bad drivers (funny how that works out, since its the driver improvements that gave the radeons the lead). it used to be physx and cuda too, but then most people realised that they never got any use out of these anyway.

Nvidia are pretty ingrained in some people, which by its self is fine. But we are also talking about western markets.

There are new and powerful players coming into their own, the so call BRICS nations.

Nvidia cannot rely on blind tribal loyalties there.

7970 or 780 (if you want the extra performance and don't mind paying for it) for the higher resolutions or even to boost frames at 1080P are good calls IMO.

760TI I guess will be competing with the 7950 and hopefully price competing as well.

Agreed, £330 would certainly be competitive. Early rumours put the 760ti around $300, if true it could still be on average £10-20 higher then the next best 7950, but at least it's competitive. Nvidia really do need some good game bundles though, games hold so much more appeal then f2p credits imo.

PCB on that windforce doesn't look 680 ref pcb, so looks like we have a new PCB at least, bad news for those wanting day 1 water support though.

Any indication on how well these 770's clock?

Because I game at 1080p and won't be getting a 1600p monitor for a while yet. The other benchmarks show the 770 to be 10% faster at 1080p. Also I really like that titan cooler.

All the games in the and bundle will be worth a fiver each in a few months anyway.

Yeah a lot are in with Nvidia big time, but there are two that I believe do honest reviews and that is bit-tech and PC Perspective

Looks highly dubious to me, so they were able to find a source that gave them GTX770 benchmarks, but they don't know how many CUDA cores the 770 has or what its clock speeds are? Sounds like they made it up knowing the controversial results would drive high traffic to their site...

Also with no mention of clocks or anything for all we know this could have been anything from a budget sparkle 770 vs a 7970 Lightning to a Lightning 770 vs a budget 7970GE, the cards involved may not effect the results but it effects how they are viewed with regards to value for money.

My results are often fairly different from what those sites post so i don't hold them in much regard as far as accurate 7970 Ghz results go. Bit-tech aren't too bad i suppose but they still always score less than what i see with matched clocks. I was also shocked to see their (pcper) 7970 crossfire video, let me tell you its nothing like that.

As Locky said Anand usually strike me as one of the more reliable sites these days.
 
Bit-tech reviews are pretty crappy really, they went right down since they were assimilated with Custom PC, who historically have been very nVidia biased.

Bit-tech reviews have gotten better recently, but mostly are still junk. I don't know how they took themselves seriously all those years they would only use like 3 games to bench mark and review new graphics cards.
 
I usually turn to PC Games Hardware, Computerbase.de, Guru3D, Kitguru, Bit-Tech, Anandtech, Hexus, hardwarecanucks. I usually get reasonable comparable results with to them, and mostly their results aren't too far from each other either.
