Had a sabertooth z77 lying around for a few months so I thought I might as well get a 3770K. Turns out, board was dead.... FML. Could have just gone to Haswell. Oh well

Yes, the sleep state of the CPU's require a stable amp of 0.05A, older generations ran sleep at 0.5A

Haswell has a couple of new power saving modes that take the CPU draw to something silly like <0.5watts, some PSU's won't like that (although you may be able to get round that by adding a couple of extra fans or some case lighting to up the current draw on the 12v line).

Interesting, so would that mean older PSUs, or PSUs that 'won't like that' just assume the system has been shut down instead of put to sleep and power off completely then?

On release? Absolutely not. Intel are trying a few new things this generation. If they all come together, Haswell will be fantastic. It'll be at least a few weeks before it is clear whether the design is bug-free or not though, so there's no desire to buy on the release weekend.

Plus I think I want Ivy-E instead :)

Well there is one good reason, a truly amazing free giveaway with Haswell CPU's for first 1000 units we sell, but can't say what it is. ;)

I've been holding off upgrading my Q6600 since about Christmas, so, yup upgrade time here :)

Already got the videocard, SSD's, PSU and case so it's basically waiting for the motherboard/CPU/Ram

Any DDR3 memory is compatible too though faster ram works very well with Haswell. :)
