*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

I used to use quick pic but I found there was the odd picture it just refused to display whereas the stock gallery has never had a problem.

I find that quick pic over sharpens my images, very noticeable on my cats fur/whiskers (this is both on my spica and one S)

Shame as I really the gallery app due to the stuff that kona listed.

The sharpening is not so noticeable on the S4 - could be due to the high ppi on the 1080p panel. Literally everything looks great on this screen :D

Low ppi pentile like on the HOS my bring that out more.

Perhaps... :(

The standard images like landscapes, buildings, flowers etc. look fine, don't notice the sharpening too much but when it comes to the "fine" stuff i.e. as said cats fur/whiskers etc. it is noticeable, the strange thing is, it only seems to happen when the lighting is very bright and on the "white/bright" parts where as indoor low light shots, the fur etc. looks smooth/fine

Here is a quick example (not too bad compared to other photos though.....)

quick pic on top and stock sense gallery on bottom:

Sense gallery also has the problem very slightly...

Let me know if you want to try it out on your GS 4 and I'll upload the full shot.

Wish he would reduce it or give an option to tweak it or/and to turn it of.

Posted a review/comment on the play store about it ages ago.

EDIT:

Just realised :o

Surely if it was a problem with the screen type/panel, then the problem wouldn't be showing on screenshots either (viewing them on my dell u2331h and I can still see the problem)???

Hmm that's a pickle - I would have said the higher ppi acts as a sort of anti-aliasing. So your phone and monitor will show it up more (more jaggies)

Yeah upload the fullsize pic and I'll test it.

Sure would love to see one of these production factories on Discovery Channel one day :D

Me too - not sure it would be pretty though - i.e. chinese factory.

Yep loving the Neo Hybrid; metal slate was the only choice, blends nicely with the black s4! I've ordered a slim armor for about $8 too as I'm curious how it is. I know a few people including yourself weren't too happy with it but for that price I'm willing to give it a try; I find it hard to stick to one case for a long period :(

Got a link for the slim armor? - could well be a fake at that price.

Any good alternatives to 8player I used to use o the iPhone? It was literally load it up and you'd see all network shares on your local network, straight on to play music/videos etc.. and no mapping/messing around!

@kona786

Thanks :)

Yeah QP (presuming the first link/attachment?) looks smoother/better.

Have you still got the HTC one or even the XZ? If yes, how does it look on them?

And if not, how about the nexus 4 or/and GS 3?

Yes first was QP.

I don't have the Z (and sold the Nex4 when I got it, I have the Gnex) but have the S3 and One. Will do a test later and let you know.

EDIT - S3 comparison sent - on the S3 quickpic is different to the S4. Comparing both galleries on the S3 I don't know which to say is better (edit- actually samsung galley looks better as less jaggies and more natural, not so bright whites). Quickpic enhances the whites on the cat much more.

e1ite - cheers for link - let us know what's it's like when you get it.

Well a mere two weeks from getting my S4 and the screen has been broken. I had it on the desk at work and a colleague went to pick up some paperwork and knocked it off. I've been unlucky as it fell from the desk, hit the hospital bed and then fell onto the table leg that runs parallel with the floor. It's hit square in the middle of the volume button leaving it a little dented and a tiny crack inside the screen. The screen now won't turn on.

To make things worse I hadn't got around to ringing my bank to put it on the insurance that comers with my account (busy few weeks). Not really sure my options now, I could get it repaired through vodafone however I dont know the sort of money they're going to charge me for it.

Any advice or ideas what to do next folks?
