All the new kitties look fantastic. I think I'm in love with Brian!

Sunama- what's the difference between Egyptian Maus and Bengals? They're not my breed so know very little about them.

3 days I've spent getting poo samples :( now the fun really starts and I have to pill them. Got a tip from a lovely forum member, just hope it works!

Egyptian Mau is a medium sized cat. Lean and muscular. Super quick. The fastest domestic cat in existence. Their senses are also sharper than all other domestics. They have been domesticated over 1000s of years are the the oldest domestic cat on the planet.

Bengals are hybrids. A comparatively new breed. The Asian Leopard Cat (a wild cat) is mated with an existing Bengal (or other breed) to create Bengal kittens. Many hybrids (which are being bred for athleticism - Bengals & Savannahs) use Egyptian Maus in their breeding programs. I've seen some Bengals which are indistinguishable from Egyptian Maus.

Incidentally, the pricing for early generation Savannahs is a little shocking. F2 Male Savannahs selling for £4.5k and F3s for around £2k. This pricing is way too high, so I think I'll wait a few more years. Even the SBTs are selling for around £700. I find SBT Bengals better looking cats and they're cheaper, too.

I actually find that kitten claws are the most lethal, because they have a smaller cross section. I would liken kitten claws to pins - thin and sharp - and I find them more "painful" than the claws of fully grown cats.

Am looking at getting another British Shorthair kitten and have noticed prices seem to have risen up to about £540 :( , which is about average for the SE UK. Not long ago prices were about £350, so what's up? Breeders really have to meet such high costs?

One of our family cats is a shoulder cat/neck warmer cat and she will happily perch on you while you walk around. The trouble is, she will also jump/scrabble up to her perch without any sort of formal agreement or notification. Its fine if you are wearing a coat or thick jumper, but through t-shirt an adult cat claw-climbing its way up your body is pretty shocking to the system!

I like the idea of trimming claws to take the sharp point off, but since we exclusively have outdoor house cats I prefer them to be 'primed' for outdoor living. Sharp claws are better for climbing, defence et al. Only issue I ever have is 'bed cuddles', laying on my back, cat face to my face laying down. Involuntary paw paddling with claws extended on a bare chest is quiet painful. I usually hoik the duvet up as claw defence. But then I love face to face cat nuzzles.

I used to do this with my old cat, she used to just lye on her back and was never bothered by my cutting the sharp point off all her claws, never hissed or cried, was just never bothered by it.

My new cat however, i have tried to trim her claws as she likes to be on your shoulders which can hurt, but when trimming her claws you would think that i was killing her the way she screams and cry's, so i have done it once and not tried again, she is too highly strung compared to the old, i will try again at some point, but i cant see it happening tbh, i think each cat is individual some allow and some just throw a hissy.

That's painful.

I was once shaving, staring intently at my face when all of a sudden my Egyptian Mau decided to use me as a climbing frame. I was drawing blood. And the more I twisted and turned, the deeper he dug his claws into me.

From now on, the moment he enters the bathroom, I keep a close eye on him and snap his attention away when he begins to stare at my head-area.

I also regularly cut his claws.

When your cat his half asleep, creep in with a stroking session (nail clipper in the other hand). Then gently grab the paws, and cut as many nails as you can. You certainly won't get all the nails in one hit, but you should cut as many as you can, before she wakes and realises what is going on.

The more regularly you handle her paws, the more relaxed she will get. Just take your time and be relaxed and calm while stroking and cutting the claws.

I've never met a cat as highly strung as my Mau. If he can have his claws cut, I believe that any cat can have its claws cut. Even after 5.5 years, while fully awake, my Mau will not allow me to cut his nails. But when he is half a sleep, I get him every time. ;)

PS: If you want, you can use brute force - get someone to hold the cat, while the other person does the cutting. This works 100% of the time on any cat.

Well don't forget you can always "scruff" a cat if you want to clip their claws.
Certainly not cruel and a cat always relaxes in that situation - it just reminds them of being young and mum was moving them around.

Anyone use a cat water fountain? Our cats never drink from their bowl and only from the taps. Anyone recommend these?

My cat kept getting urinary infections because he wouldnt drink from the fresh bowl i would put out and would drink from a pond

So i got a pet water fountain that is basically a waterfall and water flows all the time. The urinary infections have been much less frequent (he still drinks from that pond occasionally).

In the last few years vet prices have went up. Or the breeder your looking at is trying to make a profit?

Any cat breeders here?

With the huge hike in price, what are the true costs that a breeder will need to pay when selling a BSH? The kitten would be registered with a total purchase cost of £540.
