i have a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 motherboard and want an SSD. currently debating whether to get a 512 Samsung 840 pro or a 256 version then get another later when the price drops and raid them 2x256 840 pros

what should i do the 512 is a little bit pricey imho unless its gonna drop im tempted to get a 256 for now. although the draw back would then be lack of space for all my stuff. which will be the fastest option?

decisions decisions

anyone have any advice

well i already have a 1tb as my boot drive so this would become my storage drive. im concerned as i do a lot of Zbrush work and with having some of the models reach 300MB each that space will fill up rather quickly. could just splash out and go for the 512, but i have other things to buy like graphic cards etc as well.

does anyone know if Samsung will be bringing out anything new SSDs this year?

thx

Paul

Just get the 512GB and be done with it, sorted :)

Keep an eye out as there are some good cashback deals on the samsung now so I think it's circa £280 if you hunt around.

Don't wanna risk losing everything IMO. The 512gb performs better than the 256's anyway. I'd go with the 512gb any day.

I think he's trying to say that there is no point. The SSDs are fast enough and you're only increase the rate of failure. Lots of people dislike RAID on SSDs.

That is not my experience, but each to their own. I would not say though that lots of people dislike RAID on ssd. Extra performance is always welcome after all. Just need to image regularly as there is no redundancy, but not a huge deal.
