Is the Gigabyte Z68X-UD4 bad for overclocking?

Hi guys, just wondering if the Z68-UD4 is bad for overclocking as I read a few reviews for it and most of them don't have very inspiring OC results. In one case they they had to pump 1.4v through a 2500K to achieve 4.5GHz I believe.

I would have thought that these board would be good for overclocking cos of their 16 phase VRM and big chunky heatsinks and original price tag, but apparently not?

Could it be just because they were running an early BIOS, early CPU's, or because not so much was known about Sandybridge overclocking back then? Could it be that they just didn't try?

Thats awesome Stulid. :D What voltage were you using? (as CPU-Z is iffy when it comes to voltage readings)

When you say it was stable in everything, does that mean 24/7 prime stable?

Also do you have any idea why the reviewers had such poor results?

Cheers :)

It was 5Ghz stable in everything I threw at it, that CPU-Z+Super Pi run was with 1.41V set in the BIOS and LLC would have been on maximum (that board had LLC listed from 1-5 I think I remember)

As for other people not getting it that high, they don't know what they are doing? :p

In my old review of the board I even show that 4.8Ghz was easy really - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18312497

Cheers Stulid :) Its fine I found the other picture. :D

How do you think I would fare with my CPU? (currently at 1.377v on 4.6GHz. Was on 4.7 with the same voltage but I started getting BSOD's in games after a year and a half (despite the fact that it was prime stable )

I haven't changed the advanced settings much. I'm not a confident overclocker see, too scared i'll break something

I would love to get 5GHz 24/7 stable with under 1.425v and fold with it, but i'm not sure if it would be do-able on my chip. I'm changing my board from the Extreme 4 Gen 3 Z68 to something else (possibly a Z68X-UD4 hence the thread) hoping I might be able to use lower volts on the new board.

I went from a Asrock Z68 extreme4 too!!! it was the Asrock board holding me back (they are just rubbish).

This is exactly what I wanted to hear. You have just made me very happy! :D
It looks the part, but all I have had is problems and overall just a sub-standard experience with my system as a result really. I'm fed up with it now so I figured it was time to overhaul the PC a little :)

Do you recon you could help me out with the overclock when the time comes (if I do indeed get that board) as you have had experience with the same combo? :)

I can't decide between it and the P8Z68-V Pro... If I get the V Pro I wouldnt lose the ability to use QuickSync, or onboard video... I have never actually used QuickSync because I didn't know it existed, but now I know it does and how good it is, i'm not sure if I want to give it up... I have also never used on-board video, but i'm worried that I might miss the ability to use it for troubleshooting purposes in the future.

Thoughts?

*edit* I'm awaiting a response from CS about that V-Pro, if i'm satisfied with what they have to say about it (hoping its new and has an I/O shield at the least) then i'll take the plunge with it as it is not only cheaper than the Z68X-UD4-B3, but also has those features the UD4 is missing.
