NSA has "back door" into Google, Apple, Facebook and others

I think it would be hilarious if the government set up this big police state framework, then the economy imploded like Greece and somebody like the BNP/Golden Dawn ultimately got control of the country (and the ready-made police state apparatus).

But I'm sure the nanny-statists on here would quickly adopt whatever government mandated popular opinions/speech that become the new norm so wouldn't have anything to hide. You wouldn't want to end up on a list or something. The government knows best after all. Bloody immigrants ruined our economy!

Lol at the I have nothing to hide brigade, it's not about that its about the massive invasion of privacy by the state. Least in the UK the human rights act, 1998 article 8 should prevent this, but we all know they probably do it secretly.

Seriously people need to get a clue on how wrong it is for the state to spy on its own citizens on a mass scale, it's exactly what the Nazis did to find the Jews and then the East German Stasi.

Yes, they probably do rummage through areas of your life without your knowledge. And what detrimental impact have you seen on your life as a result? Absolutley none. You're not going to be arrested for being a serial masturbator or picking your nose, or probably not even that thing you like to do to your dog.

Nineteen Eighty-four was a work of dramatic fiction, the main concept of which was government control, not observation.

Because of time differences I tend to read the UK news about 11 or 12 hours before most of you and I play a game - if I can be bothered - and the game is "which of these Daily Mail/sensasionalist stories will be posted in the next 6 hours".

It's remarkably fun if not terribly rewarding in any meaningful sense of the word.

The OP even posted the graph :( [I did not expect this, even here]

Congratulations. You have somehow managed to post about immigrants ruining the UK economy in a thread about a US agency accesssing data on servers in America.

****. Me.

:(

p.s. mods on here are lol.

It's quite scary how many people today will defend increasingly pervasive surveillance.

+1. Young naieve girl was talking loudly across the office recently that everyone should be DNA profiled at birth to prevent 'terrorism'

Took some biting of the tongue that one did.

Everyone has something to hide, even those liberal elites who are convinced they are white than white. Ever curiously googled for some BDSM porno? go to jail, do not pass go.

couldnt care less..if they want to spy on me its going to be rally boring for the poor sap looking through my feeds

Here's where it leads to though...

Let's say you own a company doing government IT contract work. Comrade Kwerk also owns a company doing the same thing, except his cousin is an apparatchik for the local council.

Oh cousin I would really like to get this contract can you give me any info on comrade FTM? Yes let me just search through his emails, oh look he ordered £200 worth of stupid cartoon dolls from Japan but there's no record of him paying import duty on it!

Sorry FTM you're ineligible for this government contract because you have tax evasion on your record. We're going to give it to comrade Kwerk instead.

And that's the BEST case scenario. Worst case scenario (which has happened many times in many countries) is comrade FTM says something off the cuff in an email that gets picked up buy government software. He maybe possibly just might be a political dissident based on that one remark, perhaps, so to be safe we better ship him off to the Gulag or just take him out to the woods at night and shoot him, before he spreads those dangerous ideas to other people.

Perhaps if you posted anything other than inane dribble your opinion would hold some weight.

Seeing your post reminds me, I really should remain logged in on my phone for the ignore list to function, TTFN.

What bugs me the most is the insinuation that anyone who values their privacy is automatically up to no good, it's reached a point where it actually takes courage to stand up and defend privacy because the majority take the easy road (ie. the "I'm not up to anything so you can spy on me as much as you like" mentality) and anyone who supports privacy is suspected of being a terrorist plotting behind closed doors.

Nineteen Eighty-four was a work of dramatic fiction, the main concept of which was government control, not observation.

1984 is about how a government can gain and maintain absolute control of its citizens by falsely propagating the threat of constant war, and using that threat to strip the citizens of their freedoms and civil liberties in the name of their safety, but the reality is the government removes freedoms so that the citizens can be controlled more effectively.

I've personally been stopped and searched and had a terrorism act quoted at me. There was no reason whatsoever for the police to believe I was a terrorist or involved in any terrorist activity, but they still made use of that power.

(For example, someone might have pictures of child abuse being sent on their gmail account)

Ahhh... if your argument is weak, chuck in the child abuse or terrorism angle. It makes all arguments valid these days.

Post your PIN Numbers, passwords, credit card details here if you have nothing to hide.

The 'Nothing to hide' brigade are all cretinous fools. Everyone has something to hide.

Agreed

Brilliant. Any recommendations on alternatives to Gmail?

Why? Gmail also state they are not involved in Prism.

Why, do you have something to hide?

^^^ silly argument ^^^. Must try harder.

The government has no right to "rummage" through anything of mine as an innocent citizen! The detrimental effect is the invasion of privacy and beach of human rights! but hey that's fine by you :idiot:

So they won't let me in there country but they can monitor my Gmail etc. That's just not Cricket. :(

:p

Hope they have fun sifting through all my Easy riders & MILF porn. :p

Ah, the reverse 'Filthy Pig' D.O.S. strategy. So much porn they'll need a dedicated team of seasoned investigators to rummage through all that background traffic. Thus leaving your muslamists housemates free to plot their next nefarious scheme.
