Sapphire HD 7970 VAPOR-X GHZ coil whine

I'm going to ask the store i got it from if i can send it back in and ask for a GTX 780 and will pay the rest thats needed

All the videos shown had plenty of background noise and yet the coil whine was easily noticeable to most but yet you passed that off as normal and acceptable, what people are willing to accept is subjective including defects.

I said that because its the exact kind of coil whine I've heard on many many cards before. It can be audible over background noise and still be considered normal imo. I'm just trying to explain to you peoples opinions on what's acceptable or noticeable can vary greatly. If you check some of the comments on the videos you'll see people saying 'mine is the same' over and over again. Oh look more coil whine videos in the suggestion box, more people saying mine is the same

"My gigabyte 670 has the EXACT same problem.. did you RMA IT?"

"I tried to, but the fascists at the store (Webhallen) refused claiming they couldn't hear anything."

"Same thing here on my 680's. The person I bought them from says he did not ever have this problem. I am going to replace my PSU and see if that resolves the issue"

I bet you anything that if you ask him did replacing the psu fix it.. the answer will be no.

Coil whine is not a defect. It is on monitors though (when you can hear it from a distance) not going to argue with that. Almost every website that reviewed a 7990 complained about the loud coil whine and there's plenty of videos on youtube of it. Why would AMD send them all defective cards and hurt their sales? They didn't, its just how the card is while under load.

Were just going around in circles. I think coil whine is normal, you don't. Lets just leave it at that :)

Cheers Tony... Panyan seriously hurt my sides with his Photoshopping and the whole thread is brilliant.

:D
Mal used to crack me up with the **** he would post :p

Give what up? I think its worth letting op know that 780's have coil whine if the reason he wants to replace his 7970 with it is to get rid of coil whine. Can you not hear it?

coil whine is not normal on any GPU, if he gets on a GTX 780 it should be sent straight back.

Everything has coil whine, we get it.
I've had 5 7970s in total, only 1 had coil whine, i've had countless PSUs and three have had coil whine, i've had too many motherboards none have had coil whine. Out of all the graphics cards i've used only two in total have had a coil whine...1 7970s as posted above and a 6970 <--- The 6970 was only very slight and was on low demanding high fps games, you could hear it when you were close to the case...with the case shut you couldn't hear it.

Again you miss the point, many people experiencing is not the point.
The point is you telling others what they should accept it at a particular level and you not being able to accept that many people don't have that level of coil whine and they need to be unrealistic close to hear it and the fact you continually take a figure of speech out of context and apply it literally.

B to A "Your cars engine is suffering from an over heating issue"
B to A "mine is not"

A to B "what you mean that your engine does not get hot, you do know how an engine works and that's its imposable for it not to generate heat right ?"

B"".

My msi 7970 OC has very mild coil whine when i pump a lot of voltage through it. Otherwise its virtually unnoticeable and not in any way annoying.

I've now had three HIS 7950 Ice-Q's (soon to be 4) and none of them have had even the slightest bit of coil whine.

Sorry I can't make sense of this, you keep bringing up unrelated things. PSP screens, monitors, crossfire issues, car engines.

Hopefully one day I'll buy a graphics card with no coil whine :D

On a serious note coil whine is only an issue for me on FIFA 13, in the menu's it's very noticeable.

I find Fifa 13 crashes in the menu's if the fps goes too high. As a result i normally limit fps in RadeonPro to 75. Also crossfire seems to be a big no no in this game as its just not demanding enough to stress a single gpu yet alone two.

They are related in context to your claims and actions with being literal and that you take things out of contest like you have just done again.

This is the bit you should have been addressing and not the examples and analogies.

The point is you telling others what they should accept it at a particular level and you not being able to accept that many people don't have that level of coil whine and they need to be unrealistically close to hear it and the fact you continually take a figure of speech out of context and apply it literally.
