Bit disappointed at pricematch!

Depends on stock levels too, this customer was obviously frustrated from ordering and not getting what he wanted as some companies were lying to him. So I just had to prove him something in style.

So some staff will try to price match at OCUK and others won't? Unfair but I guess that's the way of the world now

It is not that they wont, it is because they cannot, not everyone has the ability to change pricing on products, for security reasons you can probably guess why.

When I come to actually buy a full blown PC, I won't hesitate and will be shopping here even if it is more expensive.

I would get up-to date advice to on proposed builds from staff and forum members.

The forum is second to none. I've met like minded people for FSX. Laughed at all the Photoshop threads in GD. Been to 2 Motors meets. Well worth the money you said you're saving.

Not at all but more senior staff are sometimes willing to make decisions others aren't - alas they aren't always available to be asked and different people will make different decisions in any case. There isn't a set policy on this because availability, demand and upcoming price changes just aren't common knowledge.

This might be a bit difficult to answer but where can you get an i5 3570K for £35 less than OCUK at £167.99 inc VAT? Best I'm seeing is £160.00.

Lol, yeah, i'll not divulge the competitor but the retail version at OCUK is £189 (inc vat), the competitors is £155.

So true and same in any company. For example 5UB said he would "price match" on a 7970 on opening day for £199. If I had asked lesser members they might have said no.

+ Given who I think it may be from I would deffo pay the extra for OcUK.........

Yeah it was they opening shop deal, 7970 for £199 and a DGM 27" for £199 as well.

5UB said if I was late getting there he would help me out (coming over 200 miles) but as it was everybody in the shop that day got 7970 for £199 if they wanted them

In fact, when I need to do a deal I always ask for people i Know from the forums when I ring up, it seems to work better.

OC aren't/weren't building it btw, it was just for the sale of the parts.

For a single component that neither company makes, so the process of RMA is pretty much the same (btw, i've had to RMA to both suppliers in the past and have had the same level of service from both).

I think it's a bit short sighted to base the decision to spend elsewhere based on 35 notes if you are happy with everything else. As a business when you have such a broad range it is not easy to get everything the cheapest but if your sole decision is based on your spend to date and the fact you can save 35 quid buy elsewhere. For me 35 quid is what I spend at McDonalds......when I'm not that hungry........and on a diet.

I try and buy my stuff from OCUK, but if what I want is cheaper elsewhere, I buy that and get on with my life.

The last full build I did I had stuff from 3 different companies, OCUK being one of them, and all the parts arrived with in an hour of each other the next day.

The most cost effective way isnt necessarily with the cheapest component.

Initially the free shipping here has an advantage over other retailers.

If you consider the life of the product, if you need to RMA: the cost of postage, the time, the potential RMA rejection, etc

Personally I try to get as much as i can on the list from Ocuk as i find they are the best in the long run

That is a big difference and I may be asking a daft question here but have you checked that the competitive price include VAT?

We make very little margin on our products, we will price match when we can, but if we lose money on the product, then it is not viable to be losing money on orders that are placed.

Then you run the risk of the product sitting onthe shelf until it devalues below the price you bought it and never selling at all

I can't be bothered with all the Faff. I'll look at total's if the total at OCuk is lower than elsewhere they get the business.

Although after an experience with a competitor I only really shop at OCuk anyhow

that's not what 5ub means. There is little margain to be made on intel chips for us. but we can't not sell a core component of a system....


This competitor is doing something that others have done before (probably the same loss-mongering company as usual to be honest). The if 2500k was being sold by a rival back in the p67 era for as little as £1 margin. Obviously they were hoping the customer would buy a board and ram/cooler to go with it to make the shipping cost effective.

If however the customer only buys the chip and then returns it because it doesn't post (poor example as chips are fairly reliable) that company would lose money. AS the customer isn't supposed to bare the expense of returning a faulty item. So it's a high risk manoeuvre to gain customers that can bite you in the ass.

also they may have a better buy price than us the conversion rate on $$ to ££ also may have suited the rival better than it did us.

We do exclusives and excellent deals on items too that sometimes other companies can't match. so it's swings and roundabouts imo.

I think ocUK should start using Yodel, since it adds a bit of adventure for costumers... Trying to get your parcel from them is same as treasure hunting, you feel 4 years old again.

Truly priceless experience.

On the subject,

Cheapest I can find 3570k is for 179 pounds VAT included.... The delivery from that retailed is hefty, currently 4770k is also cheaper on ocUK than competitors.

The only thing I would moan about is some B-grade items... Which are priced stupidly and sometimes are even more than the retail price and they never shift.
