Have you cracked the screen on your S3 or S4 yet ??

I've never cracked a phone screen as of yet. I've had an s2 which the bottom half of the touchscreen stoped working.

Same here never cracked a screen yet (touch wood), I guess you just have to be careful and use a case which protects the screen.

Yeah that does look pretty good, shame they went and used the GS 3 camera and LCD screen instead though!

But how does it fare when it comes to drops?

Interesting phone the active, it looks quite good tbh better then the GS4. The camera on the GS3 wasnt too bad at all plus the screen is still 1080p might be a great phone.

I managed to pretty much throw my SGS3 across a car park floor a few months ago. Used it as an excuse to get an iPhone 5.

Funnily enough, the wife's dropped her 4S more times than I care to count and it's still mint. Anecdotal, obviously.

yep I always buy a full covered case and screen protector for every phone I get. tbh I don't care how it looks as long as it protects it. because phones are not cheap.

Out of curiosity, what goes into your buying decision for a phone? Do you care about industrial design etc, seeing as it's going to spend its life hidden?

Yeah I quite like the design of it too, however, hate the hard buttons! Should have gone with on screen like the XZ.

True, only had a quick look at previews/hands on articles etc., supposedly the screen is pretty good but has poor blacks and not enough contrast (might be increased with a software update.....) plus viewing angles aren't quite as good as the likes of the one etc.

looks of the phone is not so important to me. whats important to me is features, spec/hardware and ease of use as I use my nose to control the phone.

Had my S3 since September, been using it without a case... all was fine till Friday morning when I dropped it from about 4 ft onto tarmac.

It landed screen first - the top right corner has a few streaks of cracks which is little annoying, but the phone is still perfectly usable. Its only really obvious when the screen is off, so no need for me to fix it.

my sgn screen was awful

dropped once and smashed. horrible design , thin, light and weak. lasted under 1year uncracked. put me off samsung phones! worst phone i owned

htc desire and iphone original were my previous ones, perfect after 2 years +, the htc was so nicely designed

moto razr hd maxx i have now seems pretty rugged

The worst thing I've ever done to any phone is chip a bit of the plastic case when removing it to change batteries.

What on earth have you guys been doing?

i dropped mine from 1 foot onto lino floor. not exactly a big or hard fall!

Loads of people have said the blue ones are meant to be much easier to fix as the glass is meant to be thicker...

In my case, where the screen was shattered rather than a few cracks, it's a lot more difficult.

The blue colour is actually a strong foil material under the glass which caused all manner of problems when trying to separate it from the phone. The whole lot had to be pulled off in one go, unless you somehow break the foil. The white phone doesn't have this problem (colour seems to be painted directly on the glass), so you can just pick the glass pieces off with ease without worrying about breaking the LCD.

That is an awful explanation I know... :p

Broke my s4 screen today. It only fell about a foot but the whole bottom half of the screen smashed. Only had it a few days! Glad I've got insurance. *sobs*

Cracked my white S3 screen a few months back. Decided to try and fix it myself, so I bought a new screen plus adhesive for around £15. Few hours work and it was as good as new!

Few weeks later, I lost that phone and decided to buy a blue S3 replacement off eBay (I didn't have insurance, or the money for a brand new one) with a cracked screen. £15 and a few hours later, sorted.

The blue phones are definitely a lot harder to fix though.
I just finish replacing the front glass on my Blue S3....

I might be wrong but the replacement glass I fitted don't seem to be anywhere near as good as the Original glass...
(it feels/looks more like plastic and it even maybe some kind of plastic instead of glass)

Seems like certain phones which are very similar in design can be massively different in how easy they are to break!

Not an S3/S4, but I have a Note 1 which I would imagine to be very similar in design to the S3 (as it came out between the S2 and S3) dropped it a couple of weeks ago, from ~chest height (so about 4 ft) to concrete. It has a slight scratch on the edge of the plastic.

Previously to that I had a Dell Streak, which I managed to break the glass on twice!

First time was from a picnic table onto concrete - screen absolutely shattered, fair enough.

Second time, I had it in a pocket of some trousers which were on the floor. Picked them up and it fell out of the pocket onto (not particularly hard) laminate floor from ~1ft. Shattered everywhere again!

Mine was exactly the same as the original (from eBay). I guess it's just pure luck as to whether you receive a genuine screen or a cheap one.

I did but i never dropped it. A small hairline crack just appeared (off screen) on the bottom left corner of my S3. I noticed this days before i was trading it in to O2 recylcle. Luckliy they didnt notice and i got the full amount for the phone :D

I don't know how it happened. The crack just suddenly appeared for no reason

Dropped mine twice from hip hight onto concrete floor at work and it's not smashed yet....About 9 months.

I've also seen a s3 mini smashed from the same hight and a s4 undamaged from the same hight.
