The closeup helps show the text and that it is Yugoslavia and Northern Ireland that the first two are for.

Interestingly no Long Service and Good Conduct medal... the fact that he has the Golden Jubilee medal means that he joined no later than 1997, meaning he has served at least 15 years in the Army so I'm pretty sure he's done enough time to receive it. He's most likely been a bad boy, or annoyed someone he shouldn't have :p

How do you think he made it to Major if he had a transgression serious enough to not get good service medal ? Honest question, I don't know, just interested.
 
The leaf could be a "Mentioned in Despatches". IIRC officers got silver ones and OR's bronze.

Note no medal for Iraq ??.

Silly question; do you have to wear a medal if you're awarded it? Or can you just pick and choose the "cool" ones you want to show off?

As far as I know being charged (formal disciplinary action that is noted on your record and stays there) at any point in your career can mean you are not eligible for the LS&GC medal. I'm not entirely certain about this, I think it varies from service to service maybe as I know people who have it in the RAF who have been charged. The Army tends to be quite a fair bit more strict on that kind of thing from what I have observed. I'm not particularly clued up on this I'm afraid, having only 4 years service and zero medals to show for it :p

lol I have two and im not even in the forces !

I thought you didnt get any respect in the army unless you have been the same rank more than once (via Colchester :D )

Or maybe he could only fit five on the row and decided turning up with two rows of medals would make him look silly so picked his favourite five :P

Army officers aren't awarded the LS&CG medal: it's expected that their behaviour is beyond reproach.
