**** The Official Superman - Man Of Steel Discussion Thread ****

I really enjoyed the film. Definitely better than superman returns.

I prefer it to the avengers/ iron man as it portrays a more realistic/ gritty feel without the humour. I wish they had spread it out more over more films to allow for more character development and show him growing up in more detail.

8/10
Wish this is the start of a trilogy!

Saw it last night, found it completely unengaging, character development felt rushed and the pace of the film I found jumped around too much.

Hit the halfway point and suddenly it just seemed to turn into a huge CGI ****fest for the sake of it. I almost fell asleep during the last 45 minutes as it had started to drag so much.

Overall found it distinctly forgettable, I feel as if 3/5 is being somewhat generous to this one.

Disappointed given how much i've enjoyed all the Avengers films and the Dark Knight trilogy etc.

I saw it this morning and really enjoyed it. It was actually the lack of humour that made it a better movie for me. This is supposed to be hard hitting with death - there isn't really any room for humour.
Well acted and generally felt on a high as I came out.
Even managed to get some emotion out of me.

When Jonathan Kent was killed that actually almost got me. I know the story, I knew he would die - but the moment it came and circumstance and his telling Clarke "no" almost managed to bring a tear to the eye despite the fact I had no real connection with him

Hope this is the start of at least a trilogy.

The original 1978 movies Pa Kent death scene was much better.

Saw this on Friday. Was quite disappointed by it.

As said, it's basically a rip of Avengers.

Wouldn't see it in 3D as there is so much fast action it'll just give you a headache.

The fight scenes in Man of Steel and city destruction are 100x times better than a giant robot slug smashing into a few buildings. Avengers felt very small scale considering it was apparently a full on alien invasion.

Each to their own though, Avengers left me feeling very flat, all 3 IM movies are more enjoyable.

I don't think the scale is the issue, it's the excitement you get from watching it. Buildings falling down stops being engaging when that's all they've been doing for the best part of an hour. A little pacing, some troughs for the peaks, would have made all the difference. By the time we got to the final showdown in Man of Steel I didn't care any more and just wanted it to end.

especially when they were both indestructible. Punching zod through a skyscraper loses all it's impact when you realise it won't even scratch him, and even the spectacle of it dwindles after he's been punched through the 20th one. Less is more.

Just got back from seeing this and would give it 8/10.

The opening scenes had me thinking it was a sci fi remake of Gladiator, all RC needed was a sword, and no way was Costner 47 in it :D, and one fight scene too many. Other than that, it was a really good film.

Just got back from seeing it, awesome! :)

Having been a masive fan of Supermen since I was a boy I do like the original films but I always liked the comics and animated features more as they never shied away from supes having a proper full on super fight which the original films did.

This on the other hand was spot on not shying away from the true power of Superman!

I give it 9.75/10, it loses .25 of a point for the lack of red pants. ;)

Saw it on imax yesterday!

Though it was funny how everything is stealing the shaky-zoom effect these days :p

Amazing movie though, the destruction was absolutely superb, by far the best I've seen in any movie to date and ridiculous how far special fx have come. I was grinning like an idiot during the last third of the movie haha

One thing I couldn't work out

Er, why was Lois Lane on the plane at the end, does she have some elite military training that I missed out on that would justify her being part of that? :p

That's the point though, you've got 2 God like beings having a thrown down, of course **** is going to be destroyed

I've got no problem with that at all - cities being trashed in super fights is all good :) My issue is I didn't really care while watching it, which is pretty much all down to poor pacing.

Iron Man films were definitely more enjoyable than Avengers. At no point did I feel that Man of Steel was a rip off of any other film either. The way the story was told, the flashbacks and the continuation throughout was well done and you get bagels for the emotions going through his mind at the time as well.

There was a lot of action but it was done in such a way that you didn't feel bored and left wondering when it would end though.

Overall amazing camera work and special effects, especially the Krypton technology shown, excellent musical score to set the mood and all round excellent characters.

A couple of friends said they didn't like the sci-fi bits but I feel that those scenes worked really well. We got to see Krypton and its people, how they evolved for once and why "Clark" is so different.

Perhaps if anything, Amy Adams was the only real weak link, her character wasn't as spontaneous as I'd imagine her to be I guess but that didn't really bother me and she was very easy on the eyes ;)

Just seen it, I don’t think what was included in the film was wrong but the structure and pacing of the film could have been a lot better but they didn’t have a cop out at the end which I appreciated considering how most of the super man stories go.

Saw it tonight.

Good film overall - felt a bit charmless and reminded me of matrix revolutions quite a bit in the action scenes towards the end. Will be interesting how they build a DC universe around a guy who is basically invincible.

7/10

Loved it, the villains totally stole the show for me, I was rooting for the them the whole way through, especially Faora, her armour and fight scenes were epic :D

"Hey boss, I've perfected the algorithm for destructing New York buildings using visual effects"

"Excellent, apply to all" :D

Enjoyed this film, great action scenes and no pointless one liners. Zod looked like he was straight from a computer game.

Loved the 'truck' scene

7.4/10 from me.
