.

Cats don't tend to get ill. I wouldn't bother and I've got a 12-13 week old kitten. Or have you got one of the semi wild things that cost around 2k?

Direct line. I pay £12 a month for my two cats (in total) and they settled a £750 claim with no problems earlier this year.

It's up for renewal soon, so is likely to go up due to my claim.

The policy isn't the lifetime one, just capped at 12 months worth of treatment, and so I am likely to be upgrading when I renew, just in case

:)

We shop around every year. This years winner was pet insurance.co.uk
Make sure you pay for 'lifetime cover' on whatever policy you choose.

No, but I would like to be able to treat them regardless of their affliction and not have to weigh up the cost of saving their life :(

Who was the free stuff through? Have they issued you any renewal offer?
Tried a price comparison website to see who is cheapest for what level of cover?

I'll re-read the note they sent through about the free period expiring. I haven't looked at price comparison sites as I wasn't sure if the quality of cover varied for each provider.

Pet plan - Best by far but a little pricier than alternatives.

Defiantly recommend petplan on the Covered For Life policie . Other insurers will sometimes refuse to renew your policies if you make a claim the previous year . Petplan will pay forever no matter what the cost if your animal gets sick/injured . Costs me £20 a month to insure my 8 year old maine **** cat .Good value i think

Animal Friends on a lifetime cover policy. Cannot fault them, over the years for our old dog that passed away early this year they have paid out thousands and it didn't seem to affect the renewals either.

Please don't take this person's advice. Plus, why would you insure an expensive cat but not a 'cheap' one? Are they more worthy of veterinary treatment? It's all part of being a good owner, no matter whether you cat is a 'semi wild one that cost 2k'.

I learnt my lesson - I have a mog, we did insure her, but didn't go for the lifetime cover.

She now has many allergies and has been diagnosed with an auto-immune disorder where her immune system attacks her skin. Her skin itches incessantly, she scratches constantly, it gets infected and she can't shake off the infection. She has nearly been put to sleep twice; it got that bad.

Thankfully, we have found a fantastic medication which has really brought it under control. But for the last two years, it has all been funded out of our pocket and no other company will now cover it as it is a pre-existing condition.

I reckon over the last three years we've spent about £5k on her. She's totally worth it but I just wish we had paid the extra few quid a month.

We are insured with Argos Pet Insurance who have always been good, and the prices are reasonable. But I would absolutely go for the lifetime cover policy if I could go back in time!

I will definitely get insurance. I love my 2 cats and would hate myself if I couldn't justify the cost to treat them and had to put them down :(

Dont really have insurance for any of my pets, though i doubt taking a tarantula to my local vets would go down very well haha

5k?
That's £140 a month.

It's a cat.

Oh do be quiet

Don't be so pathetic.

I'm sure she is capable of speaking for herself.

I'm simply incredulous that people can justify wasting so much money on their pets.

Its a conversation that we've had on here before, and I've not read anything that changes my belief that spending that much money on an animal is a waste.

Yes, she is. She is my cat. And when I bought her, I took on the responsibility of keeping her healthy. I don't consider it a waste; I am willing to spend it on her - I consider paying X amount a month for Sky Sports, or shelling out £££ on expensive parts for computers, a waste. Others won't. But that's my choice and it is others' choice what they spend their money on.

It's not a case of paying X amount monthly. She was very ill at a couple of points and we paid for lots of tests, treatments etc. Now it is under control, she doesn't cost nearly as much. But I would continue to find the money if I had to.

But anyway, whether it's justified in some people's eyes that I have spent a lot on my cat is not what the OP asked, so I am going to bow out there. :)
