Does Xbox One stand a chance against PS4? Comparison ?

It's difficult to say but it does depend on how many Xbox 360 fans stick with Microsoft for the next gen - that'll be an indication of loyalty and how popular it could end up being. There are definitely those who will refuse to buy a Sony console full stop; certain people I know have nothing good to say about the PS3 and, as far as I can see, they won't even consider buying a PS4.

In my opinion the attitude of Sony before the start of this gen with their 'the next gen starts when we say it does' comment seems similar to the powers that be at Microsoft right now with some of the things the're saying.

I just find it refreshing that Sony are producing a games console. Nothing more than it needs to be. We're definitely seeing a different Sony at the moment, fundamentally different from the Sony we knew at the start of this gen.

I might be generalising but the way I see it, Surely almost all PS3 fans (if upgrading) would buy the PS4. I just can't see many at all saying "now is the time to switch to Xbox." With Xbox 360 fans, I can see LOADS of them opting for the PS4 as seen in these threads and in talking to people at work etc. Any newcomers or people that have been out of gaming/skipped a gen, I can't see how they would choose the Xbox. At face value, it's more expensive but beyond that, the deeper you delve, the better the PS4 becomes. Sony have obviously worked hard to ensure they don't mess up another launch and I think they have done a fantastic job. If the better console was £499 and the lesser console was £299 then you could argue all day long about what was the better buy but as it stands, its the first tech purchase I'll make for a while where I'm 100% sure what I want.

Current Amazon pre-orders are 38984 PS4, 2162 Xbox. CBA to do another screen shot.

From what i've seen and read the DS4 is miles better than the DS3. I've even heard people complaining about the new X1 pad saying the new shoulder buttons on it are a bit crap.

Giant bomb said the triggers are much softer 'smushy' was the word I think they used and far less resistance than the 360 pad. That's a shame because the 360 triggers are damn perfect!

The d pad for the 3 fighting game fans is sorted now the Nintendo patent on cross pads has run out.

Personally I think the Xbox is doomed unless they back track on some issues. Those amazon pre orders say it all. People don't want to pay for a device they are not interested in, kinect. For me having a box in the living room and one upstairs double for something I'm not interested in.

They could easily have got away with the price but their choices has set Sony up as the good guy and has them running to them. Some dreadful pr and communication that will take them years of hard work to turn around.

I call it now £375 march 2014 :p

I'll bite and regurgitate some stuff I said before

Like a poster on the first page it hurts to have to give up halo, gears and forza
But there are just too many obstacles in the way of me getting the xbone.

For me its the Internet speed and 2nd hand games. Other restrictions like cost and kinnect annoy others.. Bottom line.. There are too many reasons not to get it which differ from person to person

I'm still worried about the ps4 pad and whether the 2 player local games are any good.. I just don't know

I personally can't justify 400+ and 40+ for a game when I only play coop with my partner. It's ok if I could sell the game/buy second hand, then it's only like 10£ per game

You're absolutely right, I was just saying the majority of Xbox One sales will come from 360 users due to their loyalty and not wanting to switch.

For me personally it was always going to be PS4 (unless massive mistakes were made, in which case I would have transitioned fully to PC) and i'm really impressed with the way Sony have gone about the next gen. Their aggressiveness going after indie developers, in particular, is a suggestion of their thinking, and is clearly a major thing for the PS4.

Xbone or Pis4...

Both will do quite well. I've pre ordered my Xbone from ShopTo. Can't wait!
It's amusing that one of our mates is a die hard PS fan and is rubbishing the Xbone due to the drm announcements. Yet a used PS Vita game he just bought won't allow trophies because it was registered by it's previous owner :)

I can see absolutely no appeal whatsoever for buying an Xbox One unless you simply have to buy their exclusives or want the Kinect.

The PS4 advantages are:
  • Cheaper
  • Better Specs
  • Plays games offline
  • Games can be traded
  • Better design (my opinion)

Overall the PS4 is for gamers, the Xbox One is for an entertainment system for the whole family.

But to most lets not to mention people dont want a kinnect having to be plugged in and active at all times (most like myself) dont have room for a kinnect. Also M$ have gone with greed changing the chat ports on the controller making 3rd party headsets unusable. I've made my choice to switch to the PS4 due to all the above and i cant wait.

With the next gen consoles being the hot topic at the moment, the first thing that struck me was the price comparison, I thought it was quite a considerable difference.

The one thing that the PS3 always gained over the 360 was the Blu ray drive, it was like Sony's ace card. Do we know of any 'big' differences between the new consoles and what makes one more appealing than the other?

What was stopping you doing a basic search for all this info that currently is and has already been discussed on the forums in multiple threads?

Plus, it's impossible to get a non bias opinion on here

Im none bias and if I was bias it would be for the xbox 360 but honestly im so angry at m$ for the xbone. I live in a little town that doesn't even have fibre optic and highest speed I can get is 3meg. The internet is shakey especially when there is a thunder storm and they can knock it out for a day or two. I haven't played on a playstation since playstation 2. Ive been a huge follower of Halo and Gears Of War got all the games and some of the books and even the gow3 360 console. M$ have really messed this up for me and ive gone from very excited to dejected. ps4 is my only option if I want a next gen console so ill be sticking with my pc for the time being.

I personally have preordered the Xbox One and will probably later pick up a PS4 for its exclusives somewhere down the line.

I think there has been a lot of talk about the Xbox One being a failure and its certainly something the fan boy wagon has jumped on, but personally I think its all a bit silly, this console will sell well regardless. One thing you simply can't discount is the fact it still has its popular exclusives that you won't be able to play anywhere else.

The various issues that people are making a big fuss about really don't bother me. For one, my console is never moved and is always connected to the Internet unless my broadband goes down. I don't buy or trade second hand games, so that really doesn't bother me in the slightest, though I can see how this is a massive thing for people who do rely on that, especially children and young teens. If I can buy a game, its linked to my account and then I don't have to put a disc in, that's an improvement over this generation. It's also clearly a slight push to where we eventually reach a stage where games are all downloaded rather that on a disc, which is more likely next generation. Yes it costs more, but in the grand scheme of things its not that much more. Again, if you are young I can see how why this may be more significant if you don't have much to spend.

Otherwise for me, I like the fact that I carry over Xbox Live and I still prefer the Xbox controller design to that of the Playstation. While Kinect is gimmicky, the fact that its now included gives much better scope to far better integration in exclusive games, as everyone has one.
