Watercooling an i7 3770k With No IHS - Direct Die cooling

hey all

I plan to De Lid my 3770k this week and run it lidless to get the most from the chip.

My current Temps are High, an example is the pic below with my current overclock with 1min of prime 95:

I managed to find a Full Nickel EK Supremacy, all mounting kit included.

I would have liked the clean version but i cant be picky!

The most important part of the setup is the new EK Mounting kit that is made for direct die cooling, Without it there is a massive risk of crushing the core so it a worthwhile investment!
Also its so cheap that why not get it !

Doing all this would be pointless if i carried on using MX-4, so i decided to take the plunge and get some Liquid Ultra cooling paste, This is supposed to be the best of the best and at a few quid more that MX-4 i didn't mind.

When all the bits come i will start the process, I have decided to change my D5 Pump/Top res into a Normal top with an EK Tube res at the same time, and finding space in a Parvum s1.0 will be tough considering i have a 7990 on the way as well.

I have the same CPU and I need the same voltage as you to 4.5ghz...
I get around the same temperatures as you on prime but I'm using a Corsair A70 air cooler.

I wonder why my temps are so bad.

I have a new block and mounting hardware on its way anyway so will see what happens.

@ Diagro, I ordered the EK direct mounting kit the other day as I'm gonna delid my 3770K and mount the Raystorm waterblock straight to the die too. Hopefully it will be delivered soon.

I'm using a H110 with 1.315V for 4.5Ghz uber stable.

My temps are ~65-73Degc On prime 95, lid still firmly attached

4.8ghz here v1.44 prime stable, temps are around 75-80 with direct die cooling!

4.7GHz @ 1.33v is hitting 95 on one core for me at mo. Hope that direct die cooling will lower temps quite a bit.

Don't to over 60-65 in general use, and that's intensive tasks, sometimes it hovers 40-50s

What cooling do you have? What were your temps before you delidded?

Cool. What TIM did you use between the die and the waterblock?

My watercooling setup is: Res - pump - 280mm rad with push/pull fans - GPU's - 420mm rad with push/pull fans - CPU - Res.

The Ivy mount kit arrived, Though i cant understand why there is only 3 washers? o.O

the Pack shows its supposed to have 3, yet the pic shows them being used with 4!?

Strange, as when you look at the motherboard pic there is a washer under each post.

I think the washers should be used on the 3 screws that hold the original CPU lock system.

Actually on their picture they use more than 4... one under each thumb screw plus on the original lock system screws.

They're the original ones that came with the Supremacy.
