Hi there.
I have a small PC (HP Compaq) i'm using as a NAS at the moment and need to upgrade the storage as one of the drives is failing and i also need some more space.
I need at least 3Tb and here's what i was thinking
RAID Controller: Highpoint RocketRAID 640 - £100
Storage Enclosure: ICY DOCK 3x 3.5" SATA HDD - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-012-ID
Hard Drives: 3 x Western Digital Caviar Red 2TB - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-397-WD
I will set the 3 x 2TB drives up in RAID-5. Will this give me a generally good performance over a Gigabit network for movie and music streaming and backup? Or would you suggest adding another for 4 drives in RAID-5?
My alternative solution is to build a budget Haswell machine. Either way i will be looking at 3 drive RAID-5.
