Show us your kitty cats

Was she getting the runs before you went to the vet, and how long had she been on wet food?

Sometimes you need to ease them in to a different type of food, so switching from only dry to only wet can upset some stomachs for a little while.

I ask as it's a bit odd for a cat, who is designed to eat meat, is allergic to meat. Usually when cats have issues with wet food, it's the crappy stuff that has cereals/grains in it.

Did your vet prescribe Hills science plan?

Yeah she had the runs basically the whole time we've had her, vets " couldnt do anything " before hand, and yeah she had always been on wet food.

@TomProx I'm certainly no expert but we had massive issues when we first got our cat, went through everything from moving her off dry food to trying all kinds of wet. She would get the constant runs etc... Finally we tried James Wellbeloved and not saying that its the best out there but for our cat she has been without issues for almost 6 months now. We can even give her the dry food version of the same brand and no issues either.

This is with us trying Orijen as well. Every now and then we will give her a tin of applaws as a treat which she loves. We had constant vet visits and to be honest the advice on here was 100 times better than the vets, all they wanted to do was promote hills/science plan which never did anything and in fact she wouldn't go near which is odd as she eats literally anything.

I think the best thing to do is try different brands and variations just remember to change her over slowly and in small percentages otherwise you won't know what works et...

Our next plan is to give her some raw chicken wings for some variation.

Okay, what i'm going to do is, try this stuff for 6 weeks like the vet suggested, after that if things are getting better etc, im going to try get her used to the Animonda Carny, couldn't tell if that was affecting her that much to be honest because only had it for 3 days, but anyways, going to try 75% of the dry stuff shes on now with 25% animonda, the week after, 50/50 then 25% dry 75% animonda and at the fourth week try her on the animonda fully, is that a good way to go about it?

You could ask your vet to test for something called "Tritrichomonas foetus", its a long shot, but its a specific test that is not always tested for, here is some further information, or you could also try adding Protexin (think friendly bacteria like the Activia Yogurt for humans) to the cat's food, you can buy it from the vet or on-line, see if that firms up the poo's.

The signs and symtoms are almost exactly what my cat is showing :O, would i just have to call up my vet and ask for this test?

I believe you would have to specifically ask the vet to run this test, they may not be aware so be armed with the information to educate them with the facts and specifics.

Im going through something similar with my cat at the moment, im in the middle of altering cat-food for the 3rd time, used the Protexin which was prescribed by the vet, still not great but was worth a try, so i did some research which is pointing towards testing for TF, which is my next step if things don't clear up in the next two weeks, so i thought i would share what i have found so far, due to similar issues.

Out of interest TomProx, how much did you end up spending on the Hills Science food?
And how long is that food pack expected to last?

There's nothing wrong with dry food, IMO, however, it is far too easy for a cat to overeat dry food, due to the lack of water in it. Also consider that because there is little water in the dry food, this stuff is calorie dense.

As I always say, it is upto the pet owner to make the decision on what foods to buy and also how much to spend on the food.
I was wondering about something - could you add water to dry food to make it mushier? Or rather is there any reason not to?

Mine are now fed exclusively on dry food due to them being picky little sods when it comes to wet. As long as it's good quality complete dry food your cat should be fine.

I went to see Bengal breeder a couple of months ago.
He had a 16 year old cat.
I asked him what he fed her.
He said Go-Cat. Bog standard dry food from a supermarket.

I've seen cats do well on cheap dry food and expensive dry food.

Now, the condition/musculature of the cat - that is where I believe raw meat comes into its own.

Cost, I feel, should be deciding factor.
When people are paying more per KG for their cat food, than they would on their own family/humans, you know that something is not right.

Thanks, i'm going to gather all the information about this and keep it in a folder and take it to the vets (incase they don't know what it is) if things don't improve.

Our cat is on purina light dry food. He has become a little more pudgy but some of that is down to going from an outdoor cat to indoors only.

I plan to put him on better food once we have been wed. Money is tight so he is on dry but not the cheep stuff(I doubt there is much difference in them all though)

Glad i could help, it may not be TF but a possibility, something to consider.

Has anyone seen the two faced cat before ?

I'm surprised your vet hasn't suggested tests by now, I would consider changing to a better vet!

You need to take a 3 day sample of poo. Go into the vets and ask for some pots. Try to get as little litter on the sample as possible. Also get them to test for Giardia too.

My kitten brought Giardia into the house which infected the other cat. It also lowered their immune systems so they've also getting treated for TF and hopefully the clostridium will clear on its own.

I add water to all their food. To the dry so that expands before they get it as they tend to puke because it swells. To the wet because I worry about how much water they drink so I try to add as much I can to their diet

In my experience, dry food is also less likely to cause random puking.
Mine puke more on dry food if I don't add water. I know a few others who are the same. Its because cats can eat it fast and when it swells they end up puking.

Okay so Stelly (of Help: Kittens! thread) brought Peanut round to my house last night (with one of Pea's brothers who is being sent on to another home tonight)

I have confined the kittens to one room where they have everything they need - food, water, litter tray, toys and a cat box to sleep in if they choose - but it also smells of Snoopy and us too

Now last night Snoopy came close to the door (whilst I was in there checking food and water levels) and when I came out she retreated back and sat looking at the door purring and growling at the same time and making that 'sniffy' noise that cats make

She was not impressed that I smelt of kitten either, but she still accepted be stroking her.

I decided to lock the kittens in the cat box, leave the room door open and see if she would go in. She didnt...(I let the kittens back out again about half an hour later)

Anyway, fast forward to this morning and she was so angry/ ****** off with me :( She took a swipe at me (claws were not out) and was generally hacked off with me.

Whats the next step here. I am taking the other kitten - Blue - to his permanent home tonight, so I am hoping that once there is only one kitten Snoopy might settle better, but I am not sure!

Have I done the right thing so far?

HELP!! :(
