Yea, seems there wont be an S3 for quite some time and a maximum power output of just 177bhp in the meantime seems.. lacking?

Not sure why there is no 2.0TFSI variant as per Golf?

The new A3 range of engines whilst not quite as small is equally as bad for power output and capacity choice.

Have to agree with the lack of the 2.0T being a pain. It's well suited to the A3, probably concerned it would cannibalise S3 buyers maybe? Plus everyone buys a diesel nowadays, the market for it probably isn't there.

I bob in here now and then for a nose round, then realised I haven't posted mine (in here :P)

Cheers :)

Yeah it's the 2.0TFSI 211BHP flavour so she can shift if needed too :)

It's my first petrol in almost 10 years so has taken a short while to get used to driving a petrol again, but loving it - cracking car :)

The 2.0TFSI is only available in the Golf in GTI guise though, which is always slightly behind the initial release in the same way as the A3 / S3. Look at the current engine range of the MkVII Golf for example; equally limited.

You can spec folding seats as an option, so why would you want to fit avant seats into a saloon, which almost certainly wont fit anyway?

Actually they will fit. You cant really spec split seats in used car though!

I posted here about an Audi I purchased recently http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=24435460&postcount=786

Here are some pics I took of it today. Not the latest or greatest Audi but I'm happy with it :D

I can't ever leave a car standard, it doesn't seem to be in my blood to do that so that rear end will be being sorted for certain as those pea shooter exhausts look lost in that rear bumper.

I've linked FB pics, hope that's ok? guess I'll find out soon enough.

Hello all, thought I'll say hello and soon to be an Audi A3 owner.

I know the new shape is only less than 6 months old but after speaking to a couple of dealerships they are not willing to budge price at all. Even for cash buyer simply the fact there is much more demand than there is supply.

I'm looking to get a Sportback but now indecisive if I should get a petrol or diesel. At first it was a no brainer to get a 1.6 diesel but with the lack of availability for 'used' sportback diesel its harder to come by. I'm now venturing into possibly getting a 1.4 TFSI (140) version but its it a good economical engine as its diesel counterpart.

I've got a number of questions with the A3 and need a non less sales opinionated view but should it be a diesel or petrol?

Petrol unless you really, really need diesel. It will be far more plesant to drive - smoother, quieter, etc.

Thats the thing, I don't know if diesel is ideal for me because I've never driven one. My current car is an 03 1.4 Civic and I do town driving but can do a couple hundred miles once every couple of weeks. I can drive to Milton Keynes once every 1 month or so or even to Birmingham / London when doing an airport round.

Get the petrol, thats not really enough miles to justify the diesel and the 1.6TDi isnt that good an engine anyway and has a DPF (diesel particulate filter) which could clog up if you do a lot of short trips. The 1.4TFSI is pretty good on fuel anyway and has a nice amount more power. And actuallt if its the 140bhp version I take it, it will have cylinder on demand which will mean the economy wont be far off what the diesel will get (possibly better around town as the diesel will take an age to get up to peak operating temperature)

Yes, the cylinder on demand petrol engine is the one to go for. 0-60 in like 7.8 seconds, and smooth transition when it uses more or less cylinders. Most likely have better resale value too. :)

Is it the new or older A3 you're going for? It's not clear from your post. How many miles a year do you do? Doesn't doubt like you'll do enough to go diesel.

Will it hold its value then?

Its the new shape, I don't do huge miles every week. Just to work or back so less then 200 miles a week. I might end up doing Airport run now and again.

I just had a thought in my mind that diesel is better. Need to be convinced otherwise!

I imagine the cylinder on demand will help with resale as your model has the potential to be more efficient on fuel.

I was the same too, thinking "yeah diesels are amazing! I'll deffo get a diesel!!" for the millions of miles I do...... NOT xD I was sent on getting a diesel then after a few discussions and reading about it I've jumped ship and now looking for a petrol as I only do about 10k a year, mostly just to and from work daily which is about 6 miles round trip xD then on weekends to see the parents about an hours drive round the lanes and then a few times a year further ventures into the hundreds of miles.

so like yourself there didn't seem much logic in the diesel as on my daily commutes my 1.5crdi kia rio gets up to temp about 2 mins from work and the same on the way home xD

problem being now there are a lot fewer petrol A4's than diesels xD

my father does has the 1.6tdi a3 and he's never had an issue with the DPF and his journeys are pretty short also to be fair... but for them it's a 30min plod up to town so probably gets just enough to keep things clear :)

Thanks for the feedback, its definitely something to look at when comparing the figures. Whats the DPF?

DPF = Diesel Particulate Filter. Basically they get clogged up with short journeys, and without sufficient heat build up in the exhaust, the car can't run a regeneration cycle.

My journeys aren't huge though and I've never had the car ask for a forced regen (2.0 TDIe).
