hey all I got a OCZ 32gb ATV usb flash drive that's gone kaput.
emailed ocz since I purchased the drive in October 2010 for £50 and it had life time warranty.
now ocz saying they cant replace the drive or repair it and will offer a refund of £15.50p once I have returned the drive back to them.

is there anything else I can do in this situation or am I truly stuffed by ocz and have to take the £15.50p. they say they don't have any in stock and they no longer make usb flash drives. so what now?

I'm pretty sure any retailer would pass you back to OCZ to be honest. Unfortunately I think you will have to take the money, are they asking for you to return the product to them aswell? I'd think that would be a little harsh of them. I'm sure if they actually still made those they'd replace it no problem but since they don't you're stuck between a rock and a hard place. Fortunately though you can buy a replacement 32gb drive for £15 now anyways.

The retailer will probably say that, however the buyers contract is with the place that sold it, not the manufacturer.

I believe OCZ are currently going bust, so it's not too surprising. Not sure they make anything these days.

Check the terms of their warranty. £15 for the drive sounds reasonable though - I think you can get a 32gb corsair for £15 these days.

i got a reply from they, they will not refund me the delivery costs to ship the faulty drive back to them. so if i post it using recorded delivery im gonna be left will less than a tenner which they say will be paid to me 3 weeks after they receive the drive.
very poor service from ocz. i wont be buying anything from them again.

i dont know what to do, its not good im sitting on a dead drive
so iv got no option left but to ship it back at my cost and take the crappy refund. is there anything else i can do here or have they backed me into a corner?

also bought the drive form online shop in 2010, so first year of warranty was with them, rest of the "lifetime warranty" was supposed to be with ocz. im not happy with them at all.
warning to others be careful if you buy ocz stuff, thier ssd drives are known to be unreliable, and iv got first hand customer support experience which shows them to be very poor.

I've had more **** OCZ RAM than any other manufacturer tbh, not surprised they exited the market some time ago. My OCZ PSU is the loudest thing in my PC too

They were good to me back in 2007. No longer the case sadly.

Would you prefer the £10, or the satisfaction of telling them to go **** themselves?

The same thing has just happened to me. I had previously bought some OCZ ram from OCUK in 2011 with lifetime warranty. I contacted OCZ as they are faulty now and they have offered me less than I paid for them (70% of what I paid) which I assume they perceive this to be "market value". I paid extra for this lifetime warranty. I am going to contact OCUK to see what they say.

Surely when you bought these products you never expected to make a profit?

If you are being offered enough money to buy a new equivalent product you haven't lost out at all.

Same thing here... OCZ duff ram with a worthless lifetime warranty. OCZ make you jump through hoops to claim the warranty (to deter you) then offer much less than what you can buy replacement ram for. In fact they offered me less than what the one good strip of ram of a matched pair was worth. I took the 'tell em to stuff it route' The lifetime warranty was just a cheap marketing trick... Their products are lousy anyway IMO. Best thing... avoid buying their products and don't bother contacting them for compensation... they will just run you round in circles.

But then you have to look at the way companies like Corsair and Logitech operate, and then this sort of service starts to look pretty dire.

From Wikipedia:

The NASDAQ has given OCZ till September 16, 2013 to file its delayed earnings. Currently the company is several quarters late in filing and will also restate five quarters of past earnings. Several shareholder lawsuits are currently pending revolving around questionable accounting practices.

OCZ was in trouble all of 2012 as well its just matter of time now before there gone i suppose. so i wouldn't buy any OCZ product at the moment since they wont honor there warranty.

so in this particular case it could be send the drive back at your expense and get nothing back as they go bust in the mean time.

little padded envelope 50p
royal mail international signed for £6.98
eventual refund from them £15.50

you get £8.02

myself I would tell them where to stick it.
