New brake discs warped???

well I couldnt get to ECP yesterday to pick them up so I cancelled the order, got to work today with nothing to do really so went and for some bizzare reason I ordered some more Pagid ones.... just finished fitting them and have been out for a quick test drive, its much improved but there is still a little bit of vibration but nothing like before so time will tell, even if it lasts a few k ill be happy with the £33 they cost!

Thanks for the update. My bet is that they'll get worse in the next few weeks. Ill update with the result of my garage appointment on Monday.

There's some sort of funky micrometer gauge you can get to check for disc warp (I've seen Edd use it on Wheeler Dealers!). Disc warp is rarely visible to the eye, but it only takes <0.5mm or so for it to be noticeable through the pedal.

Having said that, the fact that you've stripped and replaced a couple of times, each time temporarily solving the issue would seem to point to it being the caliper and not the discs themselves.

Radial run out of brake discs should not exceed 0.07mm. The hub can also cause the exact same issue, and tbh once you have re-occurring issues that aren't overtly obvious you are best to consult an specialist.

I don't think it'll even take that long :( by the time I got home it was almost as bad as before, cars eh!

You had any more luck Brad? I've ordered some Bosch disc's and pads. Sod Pagid. Apparently ECP have bought exclusive rights to use the "Pagid" name which they are sticking on cheaper stuff. I think i may have had shoddy quality discs and pads.

Mechanic checked all bushes, wheel bearings and if the wheels were free to turn and all was ok. Went out for a drive with him and he noted that the hotter the discs got, the more the wheel vibrated so it's probably crap discs that have been manufactured poorly as it appeared quickly after I fitted them. Hope it's true. Also should be able to hopefully get my money back from ECP for my old Pagid stuff which will offset the cost (and put me £30 up!) if they can sort out a refund.

Check out "www.mister-auto.co.uk" they do a far better range of braking parts (ATE/Delphi/Textar/Bosch) than ECP and for much much less.

Hopefully should have new front discs and pads fitted by tomorrow so i'll update then.

this could be interesting. if it works out for you ill buy a set of ATE pads for the golf and see if that adds some more weight to the ecp/pagid brakes being crap

Please post some proof of the above.

Because the below is my understanding.

ECP have UK distribution rights for Pagid parts, ECP don't manufacture or source 3rd party components and brand them Pagid.

ECP don't own the Pagid name, why would Pagid allow them to devalue the brand by selling inferior products?

Pagid is owned by TMD friction, and no ECP don't own them either.

Cant believe people are moaning that cheap brake parts don't perform brilliantly, why not just spend a little bit more for some better parts?

There's probably nothing wrong with the discs, it's more likely a misdiagnosed fault elsewhere or the fitment of the brake discs was poor

Any better then?

Sorry for late reply.

Yep, fixed. Got Bosch discs and pads (which are fantastic by the way) from Mister-auto.co.uk for cheaper than anything ECP sold. ATE discs and pads were the same price on mister-auto as Pagid stuff from ECP was. However i did get £160 back from ECP for my old crap Pagid discs and pads. The mechanic used a micrometre to measure and the disc was only out by around ~0.02mm - apparently that is enough to give me the judder. However, i suspect that when the discs got hot, they became even less flat so that 0.02mm probably became a lot more giving bad judder.

Jesus. Ive suspected that my judder has been due to the pagid stuff for years.

When i replace mine, ill be going for ATE, and ill update the thread too

I'd wish i had known about Mister auto before. I wanted ATE stuff but couldn't find anywhere which sold them for my car. All the places like brakes international, ECP, brake parts, buypartsby etc sold the same rubbish for extortionate amounts.

Also the Pagid pads for my car didn't come with clips on the back of both pads, they just came with the single clip that pops into the piston. Now, probably not a major deal and didn't think anything of it at the time because i thought Pagid and ECP were the only place i could get reasonably priced brakes, but it shows they've strayed away from OEM. Textar pads, ATE pads and Bosch pads all look absolutely identical to BMW pads.

Good to know, I might get around to swapping mine in that case, I cba with the effort of trying to return them to ECP as I fitted them myself so they will probably just try and blame me for incorrect fitting.
