Can any of you mancunian types tell me the best way to ride from Manchester Piccadilly to Media City?

I'll have look at a map tomorrow and see if I can come up with anything better than riding down the escalator to the tram stop.

He said that the derailleur was too close to the chain when he was the top ring. So it wont be because the cable is too tight, that would only happen in the bottom ring.
(unless you can get a 'rapid-rise' front derailleur? I'v never seen one of those though.)

I can't pull through any more of the gear cable, it's pretty taught.

Take the cable out the equation, make sure the mech is parallel to the chainring, a few mm above the chainring and whilst in 1st gear at the back/small ring up front use the L screw to set the mech cage to be about 1mm away from the chain and make sure it isn't rubbing.
Ok I've done this, no tension in the gear cable but can't get the chain off the derailleur cage. Adjusting the L screw doesn't seem to have any effect past a certain amount - it did move a small amount but not enough..

Think I'm going to take the derailleur off and totally clean it. Not 100% sure its not just hitting commuting gunk, despite my best intentions and frequent cleaning sessions.

I've found out whats wrong. My front derailleur is bent. Gah . It's only ever so slight, but the outside tapers in very slightly where it shouldn't. When I straighten it with my finger everything trims perfectly.

So looks like I need to get a new one..one thing I have never done is fit a new one. How hard is it? And the Ultegra 6700 will work with 105 shifters, assuming same speed setup won't they? Slowly in the process of moving to full Ultegra, though I don't really want to bother with the expense of the STIs.

Definitely get a Jersey, wearing a hoddie for a long ride, you must be mafting by the end!

BTW, I won't give up my saddle bag for aesthetic reasons. It's brilliant for carrying tools, tubes, repair kit, plaster and even KFC wet wipes when out on a long run.

Couple of weeks back, I fell and grazed my knee. Saddle bag of essentials to the rescue.

It wasn't so bad for the colder months. Now it's getting (ever so slightly) warmer it does get a little hot after even 10 miles.

What saddle bag is it you have? I'd need to fit a Samsung S2 in which this pack thing is tight with anyway.

Anybody used the ICS Fizik bags?

I use an el cheapo from Aldi that does the job - came with multitools, tyre levers and all, for a fiver. Fits a couple of tubes too. Just tried fitting my Lumia (similar size to your S2, but a little fatter), no problem if you only fit 1 tube under it.

There is an offer at Halfords for £1 if the colour isn't a problem. Got 1 for the missus bike and it's big enough for everything she needs.

In all honesty, if you don't have a Jersey or a saddle and you need to get only 1, get the jersey.

I think Asprilla does, I will probably be moving to one when I decide on which Fizik saddle (am testing all three 'As' at the moment).

If its any help to you here is an earlier post of mine:
I use this.

It fits:

img20130521161818.jpg
  • 2 inner tubes (only 1 in at present)
  • patches
  • cement glue
  • 3 tyre levers
  • 1 crank brothers tyre lever
  • alan key set
  • latex gloves (ooer)
with a bit of room left over for other things if needed.

Team time trials in the rain are no fun. Eating horse poo thrown up from the road for an hour...

Especially when you're following a rider whose a foot shorter than you, almost like doing double turns on the front!

It's easy peasy and pretty much all front mechs are compatible with each other as they use the same pull ratio. Ultegra will work fine.

You just need to identify whether you need a braze-on or clamp-on mech, then fitting it is straightforward.

Just got back from a nice hilly ride with Vonhelmet.

I've learned two things today: Bunnyhopping a cattlegrid in one go is fun. Cracking yourself in the nuts with the saddle when jumping a pothole isn't.

Edit: And so the battle for control of my waistline rages on...

Swift 55 this morning, leaving me with only 25 or so to do to hit 1000km for the June Strava Challenge, knock those off nice and easily tomorrow!

5 weeks off the bike (enforced!) so my first spin out tomorrow in a while, will be interesting to see how slow/knackered i am!
Going to take it easy and do 20 miles or so and not too much climbing (~1000ft).

Just heard a friend of mine went into the back of a stationary police car this morning (wasnt looking where he was going!) when it was stopped in a dashed cycle lane (think it had pulled someone over, you wouldnt park on the road it was stopped).
He went through the back window but luckily "only" got away with a broken wrist, hole in his knee from the handlebar end apparently (ops on both tomorrow) and some cuts and bruises.
Cop car had a big dent in the back and his carbon Boardman which he has had a week (Cycle to work scheme, not sure he has insured it) is apparently snapped in half!

Thought it was odd on Strava that his ride didnt quite reach work and disappeared back in the opposite direction onto the Mway and ended in town but i didnt zoom in so didnt realise it ended at the hospital!! (he left his iphone on, guess uploading hos ride wasnt the first thing on his mind when in the back of the cop car!).

Think i'll take it easy tomorrow....

OW! I bet that hurt, I feel sorry for your mate, that's something no one wants do !
hope he gets better soon

Cheers for that guys. Ill sort myself a jersey and see how i get on.

This ariones a bit sore. Will have a fettle and see how i can get it. If not its a spesh toupe for me next.

Did a quick 20 miles as its been a looong time since ive ridden. Hate having to get back into it. Feel so slow!
