*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

I remember hearing that Samsung licensed SwiftKey tech and incorporated it into their TW keyboard.

No its not the same as SwiftKey on the play store.

So.., phone contract due to end next week & currently using an S3 (purchased mid contract on my S2 so the gf could get an upgrade of my old phone).

Is it worth getting an S4 if you have an S3 do you guys reckon? (or should I just downgrade my contract), mostly use it for internet, mp3 player, sat nav & camera - I've had a look at the competitor phones & they all seem pretty lack-luster (so it's S4 or bust).

Considerations, even with a downgraded contract - I'd still be spending over £20 a month due to needing a good internet allowance, currently paying £33 odd (I get 20% discount through work for Vodafone for some corporate partnership scheme).

Not interested in pay as you go, as I don't want to monitor my phone usage/credit or any of that rubbish.

When it comes to phones I really cannot be bothered with custom ROMs, I just want my phone to function and function well and when the manufacturer releases an update I expect to get it; and not have to wait weeks or months just because I'm not on a specific network.

If the S4 isn't substantially more expensive than the S3 then I would certainly get the S4, it'll be worth more in terms of resale value when you finish with it and it will get more updates than the S3 I think. Not considered the HTC One? Or even the OPPO Find 5?

Are you happy with the way your S3 performs?

If not the S4 will be a nice upgrade as it literally improves on every aspect of the S3. Faster, better design, screen battery life and camera. IR remote is cool too.

Yeah, I'm happy with the S3 - but would like a better camera on it (can't lug around my DSLR all day & like to get some good reference pictures) - I'd consider the Nokia 808 but for some reason nobody is doing it in the UK.

The choice currently is, go sim free for 24months renewal @ about £20 a month.

Or,

Take advantage of our employee purchase points (get £150 cash) & get an S4 for £36 a month (about, with 20% partnership discount).

The 24m contact works out at £480
The contact with phone at £714 with the £150 discount from work.

I'd be buying an S4 for £234 to upgrade from my S3.

(then my gf get's a free S3 upgrade)

The IR remote sounds good, does it work with the playstation 3 (as I'm sick of charging the controller to use netflix... major first world problem).

Well, I've already got the S3 - but the allowances are at least a gig internet usage per month, which almost all suppliers slap with the high minutes/text bundles (which I use almost none of).

1) the PS3 doesn't have IR so no.. google it, I didn't believe that either.
2) if you'd seriously consider the 808 then perhaps wait a tiny bit and check out the Nokia EOS, it's windows phone which is an issue for some but it looks like it'll have the same 41mp thing going on with a usable OS (the 80 is symbian!)

No idea on the contract options but they all seem quite pricey to me, you could get the handset for £460ish brand new from amazon and the concept of tying myself in for sim only is not one that makes sense to me.

Oh... dammit!.

Hmm, that may be a good option - I'll take a look cheers.

I just prefer contract as it means I don't have to really keep track of anything - DD setup, free minutes - done.

yes but you don't need to sign up for 2 years for that, 3 for example have a rolling 30 day sim only plan for example which is £12.90 a month with unlimited data, 5000 texts and 200 minutes, you can kill that with 30 days notice.

I am now a proud owner of an S4. Was in Bath on Saturday popped in to the EE store and paid the 168 required for an early upgrade from my 4S to any phone I wanted. Haven't really read up on the S4 but took the gamble purely because of how impressed I am still with how well my GF Galaxy S2 performs. Wow what a phone the camera is great, the battery life last 15 hours yesterday thru general use, texting, customization, downloading apps, twitter and internet etc. The phone is rather large with my case on (have ordered a slightly thinner one) but hardly something I see as a negative but more of something I could quite easily get use too.

All in all after 4 days of use I could not be happier.
