AMD HD9970 (Hawaii XT) Rumours

8 gigs of ram? Wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Wonder if they've ever been tempted to try a 3 gpu card, its difficult enough making a 2 gpu card, 3 would be insane (in size, power requirements, and cooling needed). I think there was a third party company that did that once with 2 lower end gpu's, can't recall what it was though.

ed: was this mad thing

http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/25/asus-eah3850-trinity-crams-three-radeon-gpus-onto-one-card/

LOL damn, that thing is mad.

$550...so the chance are it would be £500 inc. VAT here in UK then?

While it is cheaper than the GTX780, it still a bit much for a single GPU card.

£420-£460 would be about right.

How many times have you been told about this stuff? You never seem to listen.

$550 is £360, plus VAT it's £433, not £500. Any retailers selling a $550 card at £500 are price gouging.

God some of you guys have serious gaming rigs, I felt good about my rig untill I saw your guys rigs with extreme CPU`s 5ghz watercooled, dual high end GPU monsters lol..........

I thought about it myself. PC Gaming is not cheap:)

It certainly can be, once you factor in the cost of the games, which is much lower.

A 7850 gives a really nice gaming experience, superior to any current gen console, and with a 2500k or equivalent, 8GB RAM, etc, you don't have to spend more than £500 ish.

You recoup the extra initial investment cost once you start buying cheaper games, and then you have the extra capability of a PC, to do all the other things consoles can't (like video editing, etc).

You should have a butchers at the Project Log forum :D
Some of the stuff those guys have/do is mind blowingly impressive :D

I just wish i was that imaginative :(

Once you add the cost of "tinkering" the costs soon rocket up, i'm one of those people that's never happy and will buy things because i want not because i need. If you can honestly keep your computer case closed for years then yes, PC gaming is cheap! :D

Aint that the truth. Lol. We just can't stop tinkering, and always wanting to improve, or give the latest and greatest a spin.

Yeah PC gaming can be cheap, upgrading hardware, modding etc is part and parcel with the hobby though. Otherwise we would all just use consoles...

Looking forward to trying out the 780, then October AMD's new GPU's. As long as you sell your old hardware even upgrading can be done fairly cheaply..

there is always a bigger fish

and ocuk is a BIG pond :p

then do you think youll be happy with a ps4? once youve bought all the games you want, all the peripherals and have money starting to pile up - i have a feeling youll switch back to pc gaming for the tinker-factor :)

Ha, already been told this :D
"You wont be happy, you'll only end up re-buying everything you sold...so what's the ****ing point!?"

My argument is, the games i play on my computer are the least demanding going (a HD4000 would be ample) and when not gaming i use it for watching TV and listening to music, all of which are sitting on external drives. So the trade off would be a small ITX computer or laptop for browsing and odd casual gaming, the PS4 for the odd AAA game.

Chances are i'll keep everything i have, buy a PS4 anyway and never use it :p I'm not in need of money selling my rig would give, just fancy a change, there's very little to change though.

As I said to you the other day we do build our own rigs on this forum too.:)

Having said that, I would never build one of these high end systems with more than one GPU and an i7.;)

Faster than a 780? Well we should all bloody hope so!

By the time it launches it's price point should easily beat out the 780, unless it's faster by a significant margin, in which case prepare your gouging goggles chaps!

I can't see how they can produce something thats significantly faster than the 780 without also making it quite expensive unless its on 20nm and by the time it comes out nVidia will probably be able to play silly games with the 780 price without significantly hitting their own income.

That was exactly my point.

Seeing as there is very little between a 780 and a Titan, if it's pegged to be between them then the 9970 will only be a LITTLE faster than a 780. Being launched some 5-6 months after then it should be able to beat out the 780 on price.

Significantly faster = ££££££££££££££££££

Yeah still a long time until October, I can see Nvidia giving a price cut to the 7XX cards after AMD's launch, then quickly following up with Maxwell GPU's pretty soon after.. Still the 9970 could be as quick / quicker than 780 / Titan if it's 2560 SP @ 28nm. If it's on 20nm it'll be a real monster. Next lot of cards are going to have ridiculous power that's for sure..

I mis-understood the way you were meaning wth "Well we should all bloody hope so!" which put the 2nd line in a different context.
