*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

Played with one of these today and loved the screen,

I have a Laptop, A gaming Desktop, and a Smartphone... is there anything a tablet will be useful for (WIFI only version) that these won't?

Trying to justify it , either for or against...

Advice?

It's just a bigger smartphone tbh - will only be useful for those thimes when you think your phone is too small.

New Nex7 is due soon with a good spec bump.

I have all the same things plus 2 consoles. I tend to do a lot of my internet searches, email reading and watching Netflix on my nexus 7. Even read all my books on it, read the whole ice and fire on it.

Can't wait for the nexus 7 update, more memory and a hi res screen will be amazing.

TBH I'm staying well clear of the Nexus 7 update, as much as I've bought into the whole Android eco system and bought every single Nexus device, to say that I'm disappointed with the Nexus 7 is an understatement.

Over the course of the year the Nexus 7 has become extremely slow and unresponsive and unusable. I have over 9GB free memory wise, so the agonisingly slow operation is not because the memory is full and the Nexus 7 grinds to a halt.

I'm about ready to throw the damn thing out the window. I'm looking at getting another tablet and am staying well clear of Nexus tablet devices.

I'm not the only one who has been suffering from slow, unresponsive problems.

Over One Year, the Nexus 7 has gone from the best to the worst tablet I've owned

If I can scrape enough money together I'll get the Sony Xperia Ultra Z, or the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 3.0 8"/7" or even the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3

Thanks for the heads up, more RAM would be a bonus, will wait it out for a while until the new one is released...

Thanks guys.

Have you tried forever gone or lagfix from the app store? Seems jelly bean does not handle the trim command very well so over time it gets slower and slower, both these apps corrects that.

I tried forever gone and it worked for a little while but then it started lagging again after a week of use, it's so annoying  Thanks for the suggestions though Dude.

Yeah tell me about it! Saves me going through having feelings of slamming another Asus manufactured Nexus device against the nearest wall lol!!

Try a factory reset. A tab products just the same as any other computer it slows down and needs a total wipe to make it fresh again.

Did the factory reset a month ago and yes it was working fine, but the downside is that everything had to be installed again - and it slowed down again once I installed all my apps, even though I had over 10 gb free in space. It's really pointless, if you can't install apps and use it without experiencing excruciating lag and slowdowns on a daily basis, it's like going back to the dark days of Android where devices were slow and laggy and it's not on.

For sure I'll be getting a new tablet and it defo won't be the new nexus tablet, I've washed my hands of it and can't wait to get shot of it.

Apparently all Asus manufactured tablets have the slow down issue and it's something to do with the way Asus read / write to the memory which affects performance.

Have looked at the Samsung Galaxy Mega unboxings / review on youtube and will most likely get that because even though it's a mid range device spec wise it seems the most reliable and for the money it's worth it, even though it's not at the bargain bucket price level like the Nexus 7

Try a custom rom?

Thanks for the suggestion Dude but TBH I can't be bothered anymore with the Nexus 7, I can't wait to get shot of it.

If I need to flash a custom ROM just to make the device run as it should out of the box it really isn't on is it? Granted the majority of us Android users will flash a custom ROM on their device at some point of ownership but even some owners who have installed custom ROMs on their Nexus 7 still report the device lagging which doesn't solve anything which is really unfortunate.

This is the strange thing, my Nexus 4 runs extremely well even though it's rooted however the Nexus 7 is way behind in terms of performance yet they still run the same version of Android. I think it's something to do with ASUS using cheap components with a combination of the Tegra 3 chipset which is known to have performance issues.

I have both Nexus 7 and Nexus 4, running two different ROM'S and have to say I have never noticed any slow down or anything.

I play games, media and do a lot of web browsing on both and have absolutely no problems!

Shame your having such problems mate :(

If those specs are true that looks very interesting although I think I will upgrade to the new Nexus 10 if there is one before getting the new 7!

I've only just stumbled into the thread so I've not read everything about where you're experiencing the slowdown but have you tried https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grilledmonkey.lagfix&hl=en to see if the slowdown relates to a TRIM issue?

Have to say that my N7 is awful, has loads of free space (>50% if not more) and sometimes it lags worse than online gaming with 56k, I try to keep it clean of junk and end up resetting it every few months just to sort it out.
