Rumours of another Baines bid from United soon. Hopefully we can sign him up asap and move onto the midfield. I can't see us getting Thiago still but I haven't heard about any other midfielders really linked with us other than a tenuous Strootman link.

If other teams around us strengthen as much as it looks like, we could be fighting to keep a CL spot without a few more players.

Signing of the day confirmed.....

Dean Whitehead to Middlesbrough! He'll give our midfield some backbone at least.

Tbh, the whole set up at Spurs is shaping up, Bale, Lennon and Villa up front....ooooph!!

I worry for Lennon with this signing. I like him a lot, a real spurs legend at a young age still. But where does he fit in? he is not like Bale, not at all.

They are both wingers though, they have pace and are direct. Spurs missed Lennon's width when he was injured last season. He's got a huge role to play this season for Spurs i would have thought.

Completely agree that he is massive for us, but only when we play with wingers, he is a "get to the line and cross it" type of winger as where Bale has become a "omg how did he do that from another pitch in a different country" type, he will do any and everything, Lennon is slightly one dimensional. I think he would work much better in a 4-2-3-1 with Sandro and one of Dembele/Paul and the other push further up in line with Lennon and Bale and a striker a head of them.

I wonder if you'll play Dempsey - having him and Bale will offer you two players who can go wide or come inside and score goals. I agree that you missed Lennon's pace, but I get the impression that AvB likes players who can do have a bit more variety than Lennon.

Clint Dempsey number 2, his boyhood number. Ledley King 26 his boyhood number, It means nothing most of the time.

As said, unless they request something different. Otherwise why are strikers almost invariably 9 or 10, keepers number 1, one of the full backs usually 2, a defender or holding mid 4, etc?

There are exceptions, and some players request certain numbers, but otherwise clubs will usually give 1-11 to their perceived first choice team at the start of the season.

Saying that, AVB showed last year he is not another 'Arry. He will change formation and players to suit opposition. Which is brilliant. I remember 'Arry nearly killing Parker playing him all season long.

Yeah that's true. Obviously I'm not saying that Lennon's surplus to requirements by any stretch.
