EA acknowledges gamer distaste for Origin "We get it." – EVP Andrew Wilson

I'm fine with origin it has always worked good for me.

but anyway if EA want origin to be a success they need to give us something no other pc dev really does.......

GIVE US THOSE GOD DAMN SPORTS GAMES EA! the ones you keep making console exclusives....... the ones you've probably had the licenses for the last 20 years or so....

Why don't they just use steam, problem solved and they wouldn't need to upkeep the application. Also keeps everyone happy.

Or am I missing something?

Because Steam has its big fat Gabe-sized hands all over the pie. They take a fair chunk of the revenues if you publish on their platform. And also you depend on third parties for your distribution, and surrender some control. Publishers don't like that.

So basically, EA is trying to cut the middle-man. Ironic, isn't it?

it still irks me that I potentially (if left running) have an additional program on my PC consuming resources just for one game..

That's one area where Origin is vastly superior to Steam - many of my Origin games I can just launch directly without even needing to load Origin in the first place. Whereas Steam on the other hand won't even let me shut it down if I have a game running.

Which origin games?

I have managed in the past to run some steam games this way as well, obviously none that use Steam Cloud.

I haven't tested most Origin games, except BF3, which loads up Origin.

Personally I prefer Steam, but I like that Origin exists as it helps stop Valve gaining a monopoly. I also think that both should have all games available on both, and if you buy a game using one platform it registers that on a central service which then means you can open on either.

If i remember correctly the disagreement with Valve was over the way DLC purchases were made and not about how much money Valve takes.

I can't understand peoples problem with origin? You load the game and play. What else do you expect it to do? A few tweaks needed here or there maybe, but how it can spoil your chosen game is beyond me. This is more down to Steam fanboys, and EA haters which is something I have never understood. Why people think steam having a monopoly would be a good thing for gaming is also a mystery.

You don't understand it as you've never seen a game you've enjoyed being completely ruined by a cash crazy company who don't give a rat's $£" about anything other than the bottom line.

I wouldn't mind if it was sound business decisions but taking an icon of gaming like Ultima Online and doing what they did and still do makes bugger all sense. The money they could have made from it and really SHOULD be making from that IP is astounding compared to what they must be making at the moment. They ruined it for short term goals with no long term strategy at all.

The animosity towards EA is grounded in fact for some, fiction for others - no doubt about it but they do nothing to help themselves. Comparing Origin with Steam is laughable, heck only Uplay (which after today I'll never touch again) is worse.

I would buy from Origin if it was cheaper than the rain forest but for Bf4 its £20 dearer...wtf?

but origin is better then steam for load times

load time? you mean downloading? in this case.. no they are equal. im getting maximum bandwidth from steam every time i download from there on my 130/130mb fiber line. Same with Origin.

While i am a bit tired of all the different clients like origin and steam i find these two the least annoying. Uplay should roll over and go away. I also would rather have a client like steam or origin and not be limited by the old fashion X amount max installs on 1 cd key some games use to have. So annoying. Some games didnt even come with a revoke system.

Uplay didn't bother me too much but after their screw up today I'll steer clear. Origin needs integration with other services to attract me to it more, their day to day pricing is also rather high even compared to Steam.

I think for me the biggest single issue with Origin is the lack of "deals", on Steam on any given day I can usually find a deal or two I'm interested in, might look at screenshots etc. On Origin though? very rare, which is why I don't currently have it installed.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL....

Oh wait, source?

TLDR; EA makes money. Valve wants some of EAs money. EA wants to keep all it's money. MOAR MONIES!

That's how I remembered it. Looking back at the news at the time, it seems Valve implemented new business terms which restricted EA from selling DLC directly to customers - Presumably, Valve insisted that DLC should be sold via the Steam store, thereby taking their 20-30% cut (or whatever it is) - http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/06/16/crysis-2-steam-removal-not-an-ea-decision/

It was all a bit hazy, mainly because Valve were unable or unwilling to reveal what exactly these new terms were. But they conflicted with EA's terms and therefore they choose leave Steam behind - http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2012-08-16-eas-moore-theres-no-feud-with-valve

Nowadays, EA games are not restricted to Origin. They are just not available on Steam. EA signed a deal with Ubisoft some time ago which means you can also buy EA games on UPlay if you want - http://www.polygon.com/2013/2/19/40...d-party-games-ea-origin-chris-early-interview

Obviously, Valve wanted EA to return because they represent a good share of the market - http://www.develop-online.net/news/38470/Newell-We-have-to-convince-EA-to-come-back

Valve and EA used to have a good relationship. EA published The Orange Box on the PS3 - http://uk.gamespot.com/news/ea-and-valve-unveil-the-black-box-and-the-orange-box-6165522

Gabe said:
"In less than 18 months, we've shipped 10 new products to retail outlets with EA Partners," said Gabe Newell, co-founder of Valve. "The Black Box and The Orange Box represent a new approach to publishing multiple products, on multiple platforms and we know through our experience that no organization in the industry is better equipped to successfully launch new product types on multiple platforms than EA Partners."

Nope, as in boot up time, steam takes about 1 minute and origin takes about 10 seconds. If steam had that it'd be more awesome.

Why do so many on here think steam have right to the monopoly, that is just laughable, oh i wont buy Mass effect three because it's not on steam is just lol

Origin badly need to increase the friends limit. 100 isn't enough, especially as EA/Dice made the utterly and completely retarded decision to base the BF3 Battlelog friends list on your Origin Friends list which means you're also limited to a hundred BF3 friends. Stupid, stupid thing to do.

I'm all for Steam getting some competition. However EA isn't the company I want competing and judging by the negativity surrounding it I'm assuming plenty of others feel the same way.

I dont.

Ready meals suck *** and Tesco are ****, ergo, EA games suck *** and EA are ****.

Lol the irony here is that if you are comparing EA to Tesco from my post, Valve is M&S and the ready meals you so hate are Valve games...

Try a bit harder next time.

Anyway, my post wasn't even aimed at you or you can substitute ready meal for something else if that makes you happy. But I guess I shouldn't expect more given you seem to be irrational in your thoughts.
