Audi owners in here!

Every time I see one of those A5/A7 hatch back things, I think of these!

What has been seen....

My daily mileage to work and back is indeed small, but my monthly mileage is above average.

The only reason for the 'e' is that it comes with sport suspension as standard, as well as being more efficient. Cheaper than getting a non 'e' Technik and adding sport suspension.

My journeys aren't huge though

my monthly mileage is above average

Are you jumping into 2.0 TDI defence mode or is your private mileage made up of hundreds of 5 mile trips or something :p

Just suprised your annual mileage justifies a 2.0 TDI when the range contains better engines you would surely have preffered>?

My personal mileage is made up of a lot of 10 mile trips yes, but also drives to the lakes every few weeks and my twice annual trips to France.

I do want another petrol, but not another 2.0T and the S4 is just too ott for my usage.

Hence why I'm interested in the S3 saloon when it arrives.

Its surprising how the 'used' new shape A3 is almost or if not more expensive than the RRP from the latest price list.

I understand the car is fairly new but nothing thats I'm looking fits in my price range. I'm guying the cars that are on that list have the option extras.

This was the case with the A4 too, the facelift was 6 month old when I bought my first one, and most if not all similar cars were either just as expensive, or more so (if you include things like the the manufacturer and dealer deposit contributions). Once you factor in the better rate finance on a new one, buying a used one at 90-105% of the value of a new one made no sense.

If you are buying in cash, outright, then by all means get a <12 month old one, if not, you might as well buy new.

what is above average these days?

Well I've estimated 15,000 as my annual mileage for the purposes of the finance agreement. I'm probably going to just scrape under that figure.

I do find myself being much more concious about the odometer rising than I have been in any used car.

Will it hold its value then?

Its the new shape, I don't do huge miles every week. Just to work or back so less then 200 miles a week. I might end up doing Airport run now and again.

I just had a thought in my mind that diesel is better. Need to be convinced otherwise!

I could maybe understand if you were thinking 2.0TDi or the 1.4TFSI as they both have reasonable performance but the 1.6TDi is significantly slower and doesn't have the nice torquey power delivery like the old 1.9PD engines had so feels slower.

Why didnt you want another 2.0TFSI? Right up until your unexpected tradein of your A6 you used to rave about how good it was.

One with 300PS in a lighter car rather than one with 225PS and more weight. Plus a 2.0T 225PS Quattro A4 is a LOT more than my current A4. If I'd have bought a petrol it would have had to be a 1.8T which I certainly didn't want.

I didn't see the point in getting another 2.0T to have not a huge amount of performance and not a great deal of efficiency.

Well back from honeymoon and my mate kindly replaced the rear tyres and as suspected had a cracked rear spring.

All sorted now and driving nice, next up is just cambelt and water pump due.

as it is just over 1 year ownership and this thread being just over 1 year the car has seen:

1 new flywheel
4 new tyres
Service
MOT
New rear springs

Although a fair bit spent £1500+ on repairs and some consumables I hope this will see a few years of lower spending and just needing servicing and fuel! Well after the cambelt and wheels have been refurbished.

I am still happy with my purchase and can see me keeping for a good few years yet!

What car do you have?

I got around to test drive the new 1.4TFSI (model 140PS) and low revs does wait for a kick but after 3 1/2 revs the thing does pull easily. I can see this being a comfortable cruiser but avaliablebility is limited on the 'used' market. I feel i might have to settle for a 120PS version. The car is something very brand new and being in my 1.4 Civic its quite a step up.

Going to be trying the 2.0 TDI next week and see how that handles and listen out for the noise on the new diesel engines.

Impress so far but for 24-26k asking price I could get an A4!
Choices need to be made.

Posted up in here that I purchased an A4 1.8T B6 back in early May. I recently noticed that I have some of the dreaded roof gutter corrosion that plagues the A3 and TT. No problems I though, I've purchased an Audi so the customer service will be amazing and this will be covered under the 12 year anti-corrosion warranty, my car is a 2004 model with only 64.5k on the clocks.

On turning up at the Audi bodywork shop in Southampton the chap assessing my car said this type of corrosion is extremely common on A3's and TT's but they don't see as many A4's so looks like I got a little unlucky. We had a chat, which I wish I had recorded, as he said to me this was a clear cut case of corrosion from the inside out. He took pics and some information from me and sent off all of this to Audi.

I received a letter from the bodyshop this week and Audi says that due to my paintwork warranty being only 3 years and that the car is older it isn't covered under warranty. However as a goodwill gesture they will go 70/30 with me on the payment?! The body shop then wrote this line 'Roof Corrosion - £291.** +VAT'. So I have Audi saying it's paint that has caused this issue (it isn't the paint, they are being muppets) but I have it in black and white that the bodyshop state it is corrosion.

I've sent an email to Audi UK but am yet to hear back on this. I scanned my quotation form and sent that in as evidence but do not know how far it will get me. I'm on an Audi forum and reading through a massive thread on the gutter corrosion issues it seems Audi were paying out 100% for some time then suddenly stopped and started issuing this 70/30 split stating that it is the paint that is the issue. Many people have called and tried to get this changed to 100% on the anti-corrosion warranty but have been bullied by Audi into accepting the 70/30 split.

There is a case where someone took Audi to a small claims court and they won the case and Audi had to honour the warranty. So basically from what I can work out Audi's Anti-Corrosion warranty is pointless as they will simply say that the paint is the root cause of the issue.

So I have some fun times ahead of me as I don't want to be bullied by Audi. I want them to honour the 12 month anti-corrosion warranty and sort out my car! I'm not impressed at all. I thought buying an Audi would mean they wouldn't try and pull this type of stunt, how wrong was I there. I'll be phoning them tomorrow if I have no email reply and as I'm in a union I have access to a solicitor for free so I'll be contacting them to see how strong my case is with my current evidence. If it isn't enough I will have to have the car assessed at an independent bodyshop and get a report from them then go the small claims route.

I'm not a happy chappy at all at the moment :(

That's a big chunk of personal mileage, not sure i'd find the time outside of work to do that, your daily commute to work is something like 3miles iirc?

It's a bit more like 6 (I prefer to take the back route through Gawsworth, out to the Fools Nook), although that's now looking like 27 each way (Daresbury, south of Warrington) if I accept a new job I've been offered this week.

It's one of those rare cars that returns well above it's quoted "extra urban" consumption when it's not on the motorway, on the motorway it's a bit under book, but not by much.

That was on the way back from Manchester on Wednesday night, using A roads.

Blimey, that's pretty good. Best I've got out of mine is 63.2, and that was on the motorway for the bulk of my journey driving like a granny!

Even driving like a stole it, it still returns 49 ish. Still doesn't make up for the fact that's its an utterly dull car to drive tho :p
