Get off your phone

It's free advertisement for the shop if they apologise... Is the op a shop?

Oh and they had a point, manors cost nothing but can really improve someones day :)

A few of us have boycot a shop around the corner from the office as the owner can't be bothered to get off his phone when serving you. It's like you are an inconvenience being in his shop and wanting to purchase items from him.

I hate it when people are on the phone while being served, it is just plain bad manners, but when people are serving you while on the phone then that's worse.

Even worse is taxi drivers not using hands free and making personal calls while nearly killing you on the journey.

The other stuff is supposedly manners, this is law. Ask them to stop or let you out if you feel that strongly about it.

I was in a hotel restaurant a few months ago and watched the guy opposite me order his diner whilst on his mobile. He simply pointed to the menu and didn't say a word to the waiter. As has been said, ignorance and plain rudeness.

100% agreed

I always try to say hello and thanks when dealing with any member of staff who is providing a service to me

it doesn't do any harm to be polite

Waitrose better stock up on pies and ice cream then.

Made me laugh. You know what, living in London this is just the tip of the iceberg - from idiots trying to get on the tube when youre getting off, or pretending to be asleep when a preggers woman gets on, to people who should know better parking in the kids bays outside supermarkets. When I first came here I got into quite a few shouting matches. Now its gotten so bad I ignore 99% of it. This is just the mild end of the **** that happens.

Have you not seen customers raging in anger at self-checkouts.

I once saw a woman start stamping her feet and screaming like a child because she couldn't work out how to use it or it was not working correctly.

I love self service checkouts :D

I hate the noobs who scan all their stuff , pay and then bag it up...
use a brain cell put some bags ready and open on the damn weighing thing... pack your bags as you scan and you will be twice as quick

What harm is there being on your phone?

Otherwise you're stood there twiddling your thumbs while they scan your items through.

I think it's highly rude, there's no need for it.
Someone talking on a phone is obviously going to take longer to pay for their goods & pack their goods therefore it's unconveniencing others behind in the queue.

Bottom line; it's rude. Sainsbury's have taken the wrong position here I feel.

yea the only things they ask are
Do you have a loyalty card/bonus card? no
do you want one? no

It's not like they are trying to have a conversation with you their job is to scan your crap and take your money not entertain you.

I personally don't use phones at checkouts and in queues etc but if other people want to it doesn't effect me much unless they are overly loud and pretty much shouting into their phone

I think the woman should have just got on with her bloody job tbh. She has no right to refuse custom, there is no need for any interaction other than an acknowledgement and payment.

Do the bloody job you stupid woman.

I'm on both sides with this tbh. People on their phones are annoying, but at the same time the woman should have just got on with her job.

The scale throws a fit if I try with my backpack and go through the "bring your own bag" bit. It has literally never worked.

Might be a bit OTT but you have to draw the line some where I am sure we are all guilty of being on the phone to much and it does make people anti social and it is pretty rude when in the presence of others.

MANNERS!!!!

What's SOOOOOO important you NEED to be on the phone ALL THE GOD **** ******* TIME!!!!!

give it a rest people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ARGH!

Basic manners, regardless of where you think you are on the ladder a bit of common courtesy is not a chore. Put the phone down for 2 minutes !

If your call is that important put your shopping off until it's completed

Agree its basic manners and somehow there are a minority who must have been dragged up without being taught any common courtesy.

Also as someone else has mentioned, when you walk in a shop, the assistant serving you is on a mobile phone, or texting, you are an inconvenience to them trying to buy goods in the store.

I used to work on checkouts at my local sainsburys when i was at uni. Loads of people on there phones. Didnt bother me. I'd just fire there shopping down and wait for money ;)
