very true. I was only kidding! But anyway, I've decided that I'll just buy something outright, it's easier and will hopefully allow me to return to this thread at some point without any more grief!:p:p

Anyway - local places seem to stock Giant (giant defy 1 - £995), Cannondale (CANNONDALE CAAD8 105 - £1049) seem to be pretty decent for the price.

Anything in the Merida range to consider (another local place)

Thanks

Hey mate, we just got some 2014 Defy 1s instock which look awesome ( especialy the pale blue ) , you d be far better off getting a road bike from a reputable shop even more so considering your other internet purchase history ;). Plus you would get a free bike fit with G.Hand upon collection.

Worth another wee visit to the store as we now have Cannondale in aswell sonce the last time you popped by.

Frequently it's to disable the bike so they can return later and spend more time overcoming the lock.

Similar to the trick of locking some old crap bike to your bike so you then can't take yours away.

Often the case that when they can't cut through the lock they kick the wheels in out of spite.

i guess this was the case with my bike on tuesday.. couldn't get the wheel off so took the skewer expecting to come back later and cut through the cable! ?! but its such an open place im surprised no one even police(and there's a lot of it in woodgreen due to gangs, stabbings etc) give a turd about it..

this is where i left it

?! ok it was 11ish PM but still there's a tone of people walking.. i guess no one wants to get involved :)

cant wait for my lockable skewers to come in.. hopefully my baby pulls through friday in one peace!

The police don't really give a damn about a little cycle theft.

There is a British Police Transport post right next to bike racks at Cambridge train station but bikes get nicked from there all the time (one of mine included).

yeah insurance is the way to go i suppose.. wouldn't cost much for me to insure my roadie.. 400-500 in value to replace so maybe 6ish quid/month..

what do you lot use? :)

People don't do anything. Police did a test in one of the busiest areas in central Bristol:

Managed to over do something this week. Was working away rotary drilling so lots of lifting heavy things etc. My back was a little sore so popped an ibuprofen and mtfu.

Got back and did 50km last night with 750m climbing hitting a few PR on the way.

My back has been killing me today if I stand up straight, ok if I bend over, but not great..... 6 hours driving tomorrow to look forward too...

I'm back in the UK for a few weeks in November, will either bring my bike or buy a new one in the UK, will bring my gear with me so can get out and have a crack at some of those KOM around Winter Hill

I'm going to book a few days off in the week during that Rapha challenge so I can get some miles in.

I just need to plot a few really good routes with enough climbing to get a load of elevation in, yet not so insane that I tire too soon and can't get the mileage done.

Right help me decide guys. Trying to choose between the Rapha Hardshell and Softshell jackets. I can't really determine from the website/comments which is best for our conditions.

I'm thinking that the Softshell will see more usage, but given how cold our autumns/winters/spring can be (and indeed where this year) I'm not sure about it.

Foxholes 60 times ;)

Does the soft shell have wind proof areas? The harsh wind cuts through you like nothing else and makes you cold esp on downhills.

Serious! I need to add a few hills into my commute to have any real chance.
