The Apple HE store - Full prices and details in here. *prices correct as of 15/06/10*

Ah if it only lasts until the 6th of September, I think it's pretty much guaranteed not to include the new rMBPs :(

Whats the current rumours on the new rMBPs? I've been reading mac rumours and they thought they would be released in August to leave September for the new iPhones.

I'm not a mac guy but looking to get my first one so not clued up on the normal timespan for products.

It could either be around the time the iPhone comes out or November from the current rumors.

I see, that makes my decision then. I wanted to wait to see the new rMBP's before buying but I can't afford to leave it that late. Going to have to go for a spec'ed up air (i7 + 8gb) and hope that it's enough (primarily a light dev machine).

More then enough tbh. I use a Air/rMBP at work and they both just as good, the rMBP is ofc much better in-terms of screen as I can fit much more in but there both very fast. The new Air also has a stupidly fast SSD.

Cheers! Yea, if the haswell rMBP was out now I'd probably go for it for the screen real estate but I think i can manage as I'll be coming from a lenovo S12 with 1280x800 resolution.

I think the most intense stuff I could potentially do would be using visual studio inside a VM (even then this would be rare as I'd probably just use it for testing), Im guessing the air could handle this?

Does anyone know whether the University of Law is part of their educational discount scheme? Or is it limited to the institutions listed a few posts up?

I personally think that if you are in HE, and funds are tight, it would be idiotic to buy a Mac.

Even if you bought an Intel notebook, you could still make it run OSX if thats what turns you on.

Or like me, you live at home while you go to Uni and a Mac purchase isn't idiotic.

You could still have got a different machine of equivelant specification that isnt a Mac for far less. Don't get me wrong, I like Mac's, but I dont see how it is a good idea to buy one as a student. :o

It's personal preference I guess. I just wanted to make the switch, and be able to pay for it over time.

I do think they are in a class of their own when it comes to the build quality though, especially when you compare it to things like the new Vaio 13 Pro.

When I started uni I considered getting a sony vaio @ £500, then I looked in to the macbook pro @ £849

£349 was a small premium to pay for having amazing battery life and better residuals. I wouldn't like to think what a 2 year old Sony vaio would be worth now, especially compared to a macbook pro

Fair point on Mac's holding their value. I didnt consider that.

so, not that i would, :D , but if i used the links earlier where you change the code to get institute specific pricing, would i need to enter any ID to buy?

I just went onto the university site that I have a place accepted for, purchased, and received my stuff. No questions asked on the education part, just when applying the finance (parent did that bit).
