I'm have a problem with my phone running Android 4.1 (galaxy s3 mini). It doesn't autoconnect to the wireless at home, it just shows as saved/secured in the menu. There is no problem about connecting to it at all, I just have to tell it to connect everytime, and it doesn't ask for the password etc.

I have played with my router settings, selected a static wireless channel etc and noticed my phone will only autoconnect when I select wireless mixed G/N on my router even though my phone will connect and work on wireless N only mode.

Does anyone know why this would be?

If your device has a internet connection it will not seek and connect to another. Why would it? You haven't told it to!

Use a app. There is one called liama 《or however you spell it. Like a over grown goat with a long neck》from what I have read on these forums you can set a profile depending on location and time of day.

Wrong.

The phone should automatically connect to a saved WiFi if it's in range.

Mine will auto-connect to both my 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi networks.

As to why it doesn't... no idea!

Lol what.

Every smartphone since the iPhone automatically connects to saved WiFi when in range, unless told otherwise.

What router do you have?

I've had a couple of Draytek routers that some wifi devices always had trouble connecting to. The devices easily and seamlessly connected to other brands of routers.

It could also be your phone. My Razr was fine connecting until it upgraded to Jellybean and then it started having trouble.

Hi thanks all for your help so far, I have a Buffalo WHR-GP-GN running the DD-WRT software (just upgraded to latest build to see if that did anything).

I have testing my Dad's phone which is an S3 running Android 4.1.2, my S3 Mini is running 4.1.1. His auto-connects just fine, mine doesn't.

It's abit annoying really, if I use wireless NG mode it's ok, but this will make my wireless run slower?

Just use mixed mode and do a speed test to see if it makes a difference. It could be the way the S3 mini handles wifi (possibly a different wireless chip compared to the S3).

I'm running mixed mode (since I go have some devices not wireless n) but I still get max internet speed.

Do you have an option to select the default wireless speed in your rom's settings?

With 4.1.2 (AOKP / One X+) I have to set the speed to 'Auto'.

If I select '2.5ghz' or '5ghz', it refuses to connect automatically.

Is it connecting to any other wi-fi instead? Had an issue with my S3 where BTfon would connect before my home network....deleted and voila all is good now
