Its in the basket... ready to go...

There is a free trial for windows 8/8.1 you can use to save you some cash now and help you decide what to go for. Some of these parts are preorder (The case and the H100) but I would probably go with.....

* GPU has a longer warranty and clocked faster out of the box, looks nicer too.

* SSD is balanced better for read and write speeds.

* Mobo does SLi/Xfire and the PSU is made by Seasonic although it's branded XFX

* Case is much cheaper and can mount the bargain H100 no worries at all.

* RAM is same speed and price but will look much better. It's all well and good saying looks don't matter but if your case has a side window then it doesn't hurt to keep things looking tidy if you can without it costing you ;)

I would suggest you do a build log here which will show off the rig with pretty pics but also lets us help you through the build (Overclocking, building tips etc). This in turn will help your post count, once you hit 100 come august you might well get free P&P. Then you can think about adding little bits and pieces like extra fans, fan controller or what have you and not be stung with P&P.

Best of luck with the build bud :)

If you buy Windows 8 you can downgrade to Windows 7 for free and you still have a Windows 8 license if Microsoft manage to fix it with 8.1 or 8.2.

Sorry to kind of 'resurrect' this thread, but I am just about to place this order (card in hand)....
I am going for Win 7. I know it, and reviews of Win 8 just don't fill me with confidence.

Yes, some people hate the case... but I like it.

But... what is all this Hyperthreading stuff regarding the i7? I am reading in various places that it performs no better than certain i5 processors? Especially for gaming which apparently doesn't use Hyperthreading anyway.

The cost doesn't bother me, so if the i7 is the way to go, and produces a kick-ass system then I will go with it, but I don't want to needlessly waste cash if it does nothing extra.

Any advice gladly received!

Hyperthreading is 2 threads per core, so the i7 has 9 threads. If the software/game has been coded to use hyper threading, it basically speeds up the action being performed.

There aren't many games which use this, but there has been a difference between the i5 and i7 when gaming.

I would stick to the i5 then look at the i7/Broadwell if you feel you need more oomph..!

Well when I say the cost doesn't bother me.... I do have a budget! (Which was blown ages ago).
The i5 4670k is only £75 cheaper than the i7. Just because the i7 is a higher number, doesn't appear to automatically mean its the better processor for the money.... or am I wrong?
Pretty happy with the graphics card. Not sure what the next graphics card 'up' is anyway.
Its also highly likely that I will not overclock any of this system at first, as I am not all that confident that I won't break it

i7 Broadwell?

GTX770, 7970, 680. Saying that, the GTX770 is nothing more than a rebadged 680, with faster memory. And some new AMD releases later at the end of the year (if the roadmap is accurate).

As for broadwell, it's not gonna be any time soon, god knows how much it's gonna cost and how it will compete with the haswell's. Also jive talks of 'soldered-on' CPUs. Who knows.

The 4770K has hyperthreading, which makes it better at multi-threaded stuff, and games are moving in that direction. If you have the budget, why not. I'd say 4.2GHz, 4.3GHz overclock seems reasonable on that CPU.

So... as FINAL word. This spec that I have spent forever altering and adjusting seems to me to be pretty good as a fast gaming PC, that I can also use for my video editing.

Then, in the future I can crossfire it and water-cool it if its worth the gain.

Many thanks for all of your assistance.

Yeah that's a decent build. The case is HUGE.
