I suppose there is some merit in advising Thiago to stay with the club that is most similar to Spain's style, but I can't help thinking it's just typical anti-English sentiment that is quite common in Spain. Xavi is 33 now so perhaps Thiago would get more time anyway this season if he stays?

I doubt he regrets Chelsea for one second, Chelsea is the club he loves. Lukaku always wanted Chelsea from age ~14 or younger and idolises Drogba, even when he was sought after there was no doubt at all where he was going to end up. If Drogba comes back to Chelsea in 2014/15 as an ambassador/coach/some other not yet defined role that would be perfect for Lukaku.

You sound like that Spurs fan banging on about Bale walking to training.

Maybe they could make a movie about a kid from Belgium falling in love with Chelsea after seeing Drogba act like a **** for a few seasons :p
Brilliant, thanks Del Bosque. He wants to get game time to prove himself for the world cup and the guy picking the squad tells him to stay where he is if he wants the best chance.
Rightly or wrongly, Thiago will have a better chance of being in Spain WC squad if he stayed at Barca than moved abroad. We've seen time and again that Spanish players playing outside La Liga get a hard time when it comes to the national side.

I think most teams will have learnt from Arsenal not to sell any strikers to rival teams.

Tbh i dont think Arsenal had any choice in the matter;) ie RVP going to Utd. He was in his last yr of his contract and had we stuck our ground then we would have lost him for nothing and he would have gone to Utd this season. Had he still had a few yrs on his contract we would have probably told him to stay put...similar to Rooney at Utd as they wont sell him as he still has 2 yrs to run on his contract. So wouldnt be surprised if Utd try and offload him next summer or perhaps come Jan time.

At least we got £24mill for him and got rid of him the ungrateful so and so:p

You sound like that Spurs fan...
Don't worry, I'm sure there is still plenty of time for it to turn sour, Chelsea do so love that shiny self destruct button! The Lukaku transfer is just one that really stuck in my mind, I remember people in my office remarking that if the words were true then he would be the only Chelsea player who isn't there just for the money.

Between arguing over how much Benteke's worth and pointless speculation regarding Arsenal and players they'll never sign god this has been a boring thread the last couple of days :p

Well we have to keep it going somehow so even the most ludicrous of rumours are going to get posted...its the only way us Arsenal fans can stay sane:p

BTW i guess its pointless talking about Thiago signing for you, along with Ronaldo as well:p. Seems like Del Bosque has told Thiago to stay at Barca so he can improve his chances of getting into the Spain squad for the WC next year.

Various reports tonight claiming Thiago is closer to signing for Bayern than Man Utd. Hopefully rubbish but then maybe it all is. :/

Joy.

Now I haven't looked through all the pages but I didn't see this one coming:

Villa in shock transfer

With the figures that were being thrown about that Spurs were supposedly going to pay he must have REALLY not wanted to leave Spain. 2.1million euros (£1.8million) possibly rising to 5.1million euros (£4.4million). Absolute bargain of the century if that's true. There was talk of Spurs paying over £10 million!

I see the Daily Fail has picked up on the Sinclair to Newcastle story. Seems to have some legs on it as both player/club/agent are being very tipped lipped about it

Hmmmm London or Spain, difficult one that.

To be fair, isn't he 30 or 31 now?? For a striker he's not exactly a spring chicken anymore!

Also, did I read somewhere that Lewandowski is staying with Dortmund on the understanding he's going to their biggest rivals next year????

I'm sure that's going to go down well with the fans!!!! :p

I hope we don't miss out on players like thiago by having an unknown low profile manager. That was my concern when he was announced.
If we miss out on Thiago, it won't be because he doesn't want to play for a "low profile" manager. It'll be because he's worked with Pep before and trusts that he'll get game time there. It wouldn't matter if we were managed by SAF, Mourinho, or anyone else.

And while we're on the subject, any player who chooses not to join us because they've never heard of our manager would be, frankly, stupid. Moyes was personally recommended by one of the most respected managers in the game, and that should be good enough for anyone, so-called fans included.

I don't think anyone can argue that Moyes has the same draw as Ferguson and if someone is a little undecided then it might tip the scales out of United's favour.

His contract only has another year to run. Dortmund won't be able to stop him come January.

In theory we could have gotten pep if we wanted ex barca players.

If you buy managers who have managed top clubs they will have relationships with top players. David moyes not so much. It's just a fact.

If Thiago goes to Bayern there team will be beyond ridiculous!

From the Bayern new conference earlier;
'I want Thiago Alcantara [and] have asked (Bayern to get him). I don't know what will happen.

'I know him very well. I talked to [CEO Karl-Heinz] Rummenigge and [sport director Matthias] Sammer about him, we will wait and then see.'

Thiago will reportedly be accommodated by moving Javi Martinez to centre-back but he will face stiff competition in midfield from Mario Gotze and Toni Kroos

Media in Italy are saying a deal for Jovetic is done, Just over 20m+bonuses. Negredo is also a step closer with his agent apparently in Seville finalising the deal.
Hopefully we can get them done quickly so they can fly to Asia.
