lol tvlicensing

Haven't paid TV licence in nearly 15 years. Mind you I don't own a TV.

However last time I bothered to read one of their letters I'm pretty sure it stated that even owning a game console, mobile phone, DVD player and PC/Internet means I have to pay for a licence.

They act like the invented they motion picture

Erm?!

They have my details because I signed what I thought was a warranty slip in the shop when I bought a TV last year.

They sent me letters which I ignored, they've given up now I think.

I don't watch TV so they can wee off. If they ever come a knocking I'll order them to leave.

So do you regularly fill out and sign forms without reading them?

OP just ring them and tell them you don't have a TV and stop wasting their time and my money.

Or just go to court and tell them you "don't stand under" like the freeman movement guys. YouTube is full of these psuedo-intellectuals getting one over on the man.

I've been getting these letters at different flats for the past 5 years, they never chase it up. In the last place a guy actually came round, I said we didn't have a TV licence but we'd get one, then he went away, didn't bother buying the TV licence and we just kept getting the letters. From my experience they just try and scare you into paying the licence rather than actually starting any legal proceedings, it would cost them too much.

EDIT: Also all these people saying "I don't watch TV," does that mean you don't watch TV or you don't watch TV much?

Because when you call them to tell them this they'll ask for your name etc which then gives them grounds to take you to court as you are entering a verbal contract without knowing.

Why?
If you have nothing to hide, then what are they possibly going to take you to court for?

TV license is a scam, pure and simple, you are being politely robbed.

Or is your response simply because you do watch television, but don't pay the licence free....

I see a lot of TV licence threads on here. Why do so many people claim to be not paying a TV licence even when they own TVs and watch live feeds? Is it because it's a catch 22 thing where TV licence people have to enter your property to gain evidence of use, but you just don't let them in because they do not have right to enter unless invited? And so it goes on and on forever and you never have to pay?

that was when I lived with my wife before I split up and moved out heress a screenshot of my virgin media account.

look at the date of the first bill and the date of that post.

I'm sure you can find me saying i moved into a flat in January on these forums if you search
Here's my first ever bill and my current bill showing no tv package

BTW the price jumped to £30
because I was on halfprice BB or whatever it was for the first 6 months
BUT NICE TRY DETECTIVE! :p

I'm quite surprised that you are happy to go out of your way and post details like this on a public forum to prove that you don't own a TV, but you're not prepared to give the TV Licencing people the same information?

All these noobs, ignore it, they don't know your name so they can't take you to court.

They have no right, write to them and ask them to stop harassing you or else you'll see them in court, don't give them your name.

Edit: The guy above, it's the principle, they have no legal right to know any of this and therefore don't give it to them.

I don't watch live tv which is the only reason you need a tv license.
I find it far more convenient than watching something live and being able to watch it in my own time.

TBH english tv offers me absolutely nothing and most stuff is on youtube anyway...

all the tv series I like are american and it's preferable to find alterantive means of acquiring them like using a vpn to buy the episodes on itunes , amazon etc

Essentially you have answered your own question yes.

You don't have to let them into your property, so they can't really assess whether you watch television or not, so its very difficult for you to be taken to court.

If you decide to do that in your property, chances are, like the OP, you will be harassed forever. However, you can explain to them that you don't have a television, which may stop it all. In the majority of these cases though, people are watching TV and are simply not paying.

Of course there are many who see it as a tax and that they shouldn't have to pay etc.....

But at the end of the day, its peanuts really and we have easily the best PSB in the world. I can understand students moaning about it, but for most working and sharing a house with family, friends or a partner, its not much money.

if somepone knocks on my door I will happily show them I have no TV or tv package but I will not confirm my identity

I will show them the satellite that appears to be mine is infact next doors and you can see the wires from it go to next door.

It's on my side more than theres because other wise it wouldn't be able to get a signal as a wall would be blocking the direction it needs to point.

I do not believe the amount of people that post on OCUK forums that claim to not have a live TV feed into their house. I simply do not believe it. I don't think I have ever in my life been to someones house and they not had the ability to turn on a television to a live feed. I'm trying to think of one and I can't.

If you're not paying a TV licence fee, they have a right to ask why. If you don't respond to their questions, they'll continue to do so. I don't really understand the issue.

just because you are capable or receiving a live broad cast does not mean you are breaking any laws.
It's only if you watch live TV.

You could argue anyone with a smart phone is capable of watching live tv and there for requires a tv license when they do not.

If you're not paying a TV licence fee, they have a right to ask why.
Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law something which these letters fail to point out and just assume everyone is guilty and treats them like criminals.

I think the only on there that hasn't aired in the UK yet is under the dome.
There's a difference between "Don't show in the UK" and haven't been aired here yet :p
