Fair enough, at least Modric is more attainable than Thiago and Fabregas given their clubs squads so perhaps it will be more straightforward. Rooney <==> Modric seems quite plausible with Higuain likely to go. Ancelotti rates Rooney as well?

How so?

Modric came into quite the run of form in the tail end of the season, and still made 50+ apps or so I believe.

I'm a little disappointed by the news of Modric. He's a good player, but he doesn't get as many goals as he should, in well over 100 games for Spurs he only scored just over 10 goals, which is crazy given how high up the pitch he'd play.
He's a good passer, but given the likely price he'll be and that he's not really that different from Kagawa, just with less goals, is it really good business?

We'll no doubt end up with something like Cabaye and Fellaini :( and pay way too much. Always get my hopes up in a Summer Transfer window. Bah :(.

he wont get many goals, he gets bullied off the ball but he would feed rvp at every given opportunity. null and void anyway imo if he's coming back to the pl, it will be to chelsea who have a past interest in him and now mourinho.

he's different and better than kagawa.

to me Thiago and Fabregas, while absolutely worth going for, were always at the extremely unlikely end of the scale. I just think that with the arrival of Isco and Asier Illarramendi it's conceivable that Real might let Modric go for the right price. Leaving them with Ozil, Khedira, Alonso, Isco, Asier Illarramendi, Kaka and Casemiro (promising 21yr old Brazilian DM who might be in the first team squad this season.)

how you can say that considering kagawa has played like 5 games and you've probably half-watched one of them I'm not soooo sure.

United will have to cave in to Rooney's demands right? I mean where else can they send him to..

All the likely destinations for him are closed, besides Chelsea.

France -
Monaco - They just got Falcao
PSG - Already have Cavani & Ibrahimović

Germany -
Bayern - Lewandowski for free next year

Italy -
I don't see Rooney playing in Italy

Spain -
Barca - Messi & Neymar..
Real Madrid - Not sure, they don't seem very interested in him.

England -
Arsenal - Having a laugh?
Liverpool - LOL
Man City - Just bought Negredo
Chelsea - Rooney or bust, says Mourinho..

This is nothing like the Van Persie situation Arsenal found themselves in, Rooney still has 2 years on his contract, sell now and they'll get maximum value for him. Sell next year and you'll get far less for a player who has no intention of playing for you.. Given how much he earns per week, running his contract down seems like a silly idea.

United would much prefer him not playing in the EPL for a team they'll be in direct competition with. Given the above though, Chelsea to me look like the only way out for Rooney.

they have.

I'm not sure you quite got what I meant.

I'm saying that whether Chelsea did offer Mata or not, they are always going to say they didn't at this stage.

The Modric story has come from Gianluca Di Marzio, who is considered by many to be one of the most reliable transfer journalists out there. Not that this really takes much believing as it's more than likely we have looked into his availability.

http://www.gianlucadimarzio.com/calciomercato/manchester-united-contatti-col-real-per-modric/

It basically says that Mourinho specifically is the one who wanted him, and now he's gone he is possibly surplus to requirements, etc.

The Mirror also think we're going to buy Bale now too: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/gareth-bale-transfer-manchester-united-2060737

Most likely just a guess based on the Woodward returning for transfer business story earlier today.

Wenger apparently saying that Man U are wasting their time going after Fab. Reckons he's deffo staying one more year, and Arsenal have first refusal anyway.

I think Arsenal fans can rest easy on whether or not he would go in for Cesc if available. And Arsene is relaxed as he knows that the transfer cannot be done without the opportunity of him intervening. But he knows it's not happening yet.

The modric rumour is the first credible one I have heard from a common sense point of view. Hopefully we will sign someone for the middle of the park but then again, Fergie managed to ignore it for 3 years whilst being reminded of it in most games so who knows.

IF there is a buy back clause it doesn't mean he can block any move and while Wenger is deluded and fans like to pretend players would never go to different clubs, Fabregas would most likely choose Utd over Arsenal for both wages and title changes, why would he want to come back to a team that won't win anything? IT means nothing more than if someone bids and has that bid accepted, Barca also have to basically ask Arsenal if they fancy buying Cesc as well.. it doesn't mean he automatically has to go to Arsenal if they place a bid... and I highly doubt he would.

There is a reason Cesc left and it wasn't only because he wanted to play for Barca, that didn't stop him leaving at 16 or cause him to leave by 20, he felt that Arsenal were genuine contenders, the biggest reason he left was he didn't believe that any more like RVP did.

Cesc will stay because despite this rather odd media agenda, Cesc starts as often as Iniesta and Xavi, out assisted, out scored both over the 2 year period, has been incredibly good over there, has been Barca's second best player comfortably and has no reason to leave.

Finally saw a media article calling the idea that Cesc has played poorly trash on espn's site. This began, and I pointed it out then, at the beginning of the season with commentators during a game and pundits at half time questioning if Cesc would leave as he isn't starting games, this was during the 4th league game of the season which was his 4th start in the league........

Stop harping on with this champions crap. It was last season. Much has changed. The bookies don't make you 3rd favourites for nothing.

Compared to Arsenal I don't see what's wrong with that, our current squad is notably superior. 3/4 top signings for Arsenal could affect that though, but they're dilly-dallying as usual!
