Planning to buy a new rig in the next month or 2, was wondering if some of the experienced gamers could answer a few questions,

Firstly is 1440p on a good monitor (Dell Ultrasharp) really worth the extra money and loss of frames? like will my eyes be loving what they see or will I be just thinking, oh yeh that looks nice but I could get the same with AA at 1080p.

Secondly on a single 780GTX (minor OC) and 4770k @ 4.5ghz will I be able to run the newest games well at 1440p, like at least 40/50 frames on the most demanding titles?

I have looked up reviews and benchmarks but I would love to hear from people who have actually experienced these scenarios.

Any advice would be much appreciated! :D

My Dell 1400p panel is beautiful, games look a lot sharper and the picture is a lot more detailed and intricate. Yes its a loss of frames but I could never go back to 1080p now in a million years. I have 2 7970s to get decent fps in the most demanding titles though but you only need x2 AA at this res so there is that.

I agree, 1440p looks great, would hate to go back to 1080p now.

I run 1440p on a single 680 just fine so a 780 would handle it no problem. Go for it I say.

1440p is great and you should be able to max out most games however you will have to sacrifice AA on some titles. As has been said before AA is not really needed at this res and you can always use something less demanding like FXAA for example.

Echoing all over the above, 1440p is lush, and all the AA in the world can't give you more desktop real-estate ;)

Same here... I have a Hazro 27" (1440p) & a GTX780, it runs fine & looks great ! I came from a 1200p & the image is far better on the Hazro...

thanks for all the info guys :D I guess my mind is made up I will join the new exciting world of 1440p, coming from console gaming my eyes will probably experience orgasm when I load up bf3 or something

You wont be able max every game even without aa though but most games run pretty well. Depends on what you find acceptable though isnt it. Crysis 3 and new metro are 2 off the top of my head that arnt playable maxed out,aa or not regardless of what people claim their systems can do. Thats not having a dig at anyone ,just saying some people find 25fps playable :p

GTX 780 is very nice @ 1440P. Definitively recommend it over a dual setup.

@ oldestgregg I get 60fps Metro Last light, maxed out 1440P with advanced Physx on. My GPU clocked at 1228mhz...

Nonsense. 2 x 7970 cant do that at a constant. This is exactly what I was talking about. 780 is an amazing card but simply put...no.

No need to get upset guys.

It flies flies on my rig. 3960X @ 4.5Ghz, GTX 780 @ 1228mhz.

Constant over 60fps+

Settings as below, you know I don't care what ya'll think anyway right? Just latest flame bait for the jobsworth's here..

You just showed me a menu screen. I can tick all those boxes on my haswell's onboard GPU but it dosnt prove anything. If I cannot get a solid 60fps ona 4770k @4.6 and crossfire 7970s @1100mhz then I (as well as every tech site out there and a majority of this form) call total nonsense on a single 780 no matter how highly it's clocked. Sorry but no.
