It was seen by some as bit of a slap in the face in very strong times in terms of political discourse in Scotland, and got quite a relatively diverse spectrum of support across civic society. The main concern was, that while the system was understood, the influences on the family meant that we were more than likely always going to be playing second fiddle to the herritage of the English Family and Crown, not Scottish.
It led to testing of quite strong political elements of the Act of Union and the Union of the Crowns, a campaign that went from legal arguments and battles with the press but other extreme elements blowing up post boxes here there and everywhere, sometimes encouraged by state elements to help discredit Scottish Nationalism.
The perception was, that things aren't likely to reverse.
And so, if independence is what the people want, she will become Elizabeth the I of Scotland, Queen of Scots.
If there is no Kingdom, there is no Crown. It was an incorporating personal union, and while it may now be styled the British Crown it wouldn't exist without the underlying Kindgoms.

Let me go through what happened for you, seeing as you're clearly a special kind of guy.
You said, given my join date and post numbers, I'm clearly only on here to mock a 2 day old (he's also only one day old seeing as he was born yesterday), I sarcastically said "what because I only joined 3 days ago" implying that given I joined eight years ago and have posted nearly 3,000 times then how can I only be on here to be mocking a "two day old" (which he isn't even).
You've got me here mate, I joined before William and Kate even met on the off chance that 8 years down the line I'd be able to knock a baby for the sake of it, can you imagine my joy when I heard that had happened and thought my chance had really come.

This thread would be so much better if we could get rid of all the anti-monarchy/baby is a lizard chat and just concentrate on messages of congratulations, pretty pictures, commentating on the TV coverage, and taking the **** out of Kay Burley and that annoying BBC bloke.

Just read back a few pages, Wow a lot of haters on this thread that don't care whatsoever but post quite a bit regardless. I'm going to find a forum topic that completely doesn't interest me and tell them that i'm not interested.
I thought this thread was about a new baby prince, not do we need a Monarchy and definitely not about bigging up Scotland at every possible moment.

I never once said I didn't care, I said I hate them and they deserve nothing, which is true. You lot have been brainwashed into thinking they contribute something and now they deserve to be elevated on to some untouchable level.
In reality they're no different from Paris Hilton, contributing nothing, riding the successes of their family (and in their case, ancestors) and now they're just famous for being famous.
