It's been surprisingly uncommon for the best team around to win the CL though. Bayern and Barca are recent exceptions, but look at Porto, Liverpool, Milan in 07, arguably even Inter recently.

This was the first year in a long time when the best four teams were in the semis.

Nah, Real Madrid were in the semi's, not Man Utd thanks to that clown of a referee.

I remember the 2-2 draw at Anfield, if we weren't so bad in front of goal that night we would have spanked you 8-2 at least. Just because you got lucky/other team had an off night in respect of their shooting boots doesn't mean your defence weren't terrible at times. There were plenty of games like that last year, especially 1st half of the season, or does the late run you went on cover up all the deficiencies?

Well thats not our fault you were so inept in front of goal:p. But stats dont lie, fact is our defence did a lot better than what people give us credit for...sure there were times i thought we would concede a lot of goals but we didnt.

Anyhow our defence is fine as i keep saying...a few more reinforcements wouldnt go astray but i cant see us getting any in.

Only 3 years, thank ****.

Do they still have a Wimpy :p

I do my fighting outside Caesars, bring it.

Which side were you on?

I don't believe there is a Wimpy anymore actually, there's naff all! Although, they've just opened a Wetherspoons, apparently!

Caesars is a place I've never dared venture, the Barnstaple version one time was enough for me, even though I was so plastered I don't even remember going there or what it looks like and fell asleep in the booths apparently :D.

Also, Rob you can wire that directly to my bank account please.

Not sure if want Suarez, worth it to annoy the Liverpool fans though. They will literally have no good players

Weren't you one of the ones that wanted him hung, drawn and quartered over the Evra thing, my how they change their tune.

I'd be quite happy with 55million in the bank and him off our books :p

Town side, I lived up by Atlantic village if that's still there.

I only went in once and was promptly barred within half an hour, bloody grockles!

The style of football a team play makes a huge difference to their defensive stats. If you are a possession football team like Arsenal you probably won't concede as many goals as a counter attacking team for example. Arsenal have a decent enough defence but I wouldn't say that you had the second best defence statistically because of how amazing they are. Barcelona have a shocking defence for the most part but don't concede as many as their weakness would suggest.

+1

We had a very good defensive record last season but if you look at some of the goals we conceded you'd see that our defence still needs some improvement, especially the fullbacks.

Err no!

Logic should tell you that a competitor does not take bets on himself to win. All sorts of shenanigans. You could just let Gimp knock seven bells out of you then go off to the pub with your winnings, aka my money. Anyway you appear to be on better footing, so all bets off.

Pffft you should be biting our hands off at £40mill plus a penny:p...lets see what Arsenal come back with regarding a new bid...probably be £40mil plus 2 pennies next:p

The stat of how many goals you've conceded is an indication precisely of how many goals you conceded, not how good or bad a defence is.

One team can make 50 defensive mistakes, even against a great striker who is just on an off day and can't hit a barn door. Another team might make a single mistake against an epic team and that one chance turns into a goal. That is football, we did not have the second best defence last year, not even close, midway through the season EVERYONE was harping on about how terrible it was, Arsenal and non Arsenal fans, pundits alike. Mert was a bit of a joke, Sagna has been a joke for years, Santos/Gibbs being lolled at constantly to the point it was so bad Wenger went out and bought a new left back in Jan.

We had a spell of conceding less, partly due to playing much better, and partly because we had a portion of the season that was very lucky, where our mistakes didn't consistently cost us, the first half of the season the reverse was pretty much true, we played worse defensively and the mistakes were costing us more often.

Being lucky for a portion of one season, with the highest rate of defensive mistakes in the league (for most of the season at least, not sure how that faired towards the end) suggests that the similar defensive problems which have been evident for the past 5-6 years, are still there.
