Retro console and games thread

Went to two local car boots over the weekend - picked up around 20 PS2 games, couple of PS1 games, PS2 fat, Gamegear tv tuner and a Gamecube.

Not too bad. Keeping my eye on local ads - got some amazing big bundle deals last year very very cheap, which I stupidly sold off. Not a sausage as yet.

Finally got a chance to try marvel super heroes on saturn tonight......whst a game! Still looks amazing and plays just as good

Was at a car boot sale other week and came across a ps2 dev kit. Just looked like a massive ps2 with Tool written on the side! Looked in bad shape though.

Just pulled this off of Internet

You do find some crazy things at these car boots.

I've bought quite a few things over this past week :D

Looking round my house, I also found that I had three spare ps2 controllers too :D one dualshock 2 and two third party ones :)

Nah, I've no need or room for one lol. First time I'd seen one.

I've never seen one, only dev kit I've seen is a gamecube one which went for around £600. The carboots I've been going to recently have never got anything like that just loads of the same old ps2 games and occasionally a console or two.

i haven't seen one up close but i have seen ps2 dev kits on ebay the ones with TEST down the side they go for good money aswell its like the black playstation ones

Carboots were amazing 10 years ago, they were flooded with retro kit like Amiga's, Atari ST's, BBC's and just about every console you can think of. I've given up on them now as it's not worth the time, petrol and entrance fee to see the same old tat week after week, not had a sniff of a decent console or computer for years.

I miss the old days :(

Oh I agree there, I bloody hate the things lol.

The other half loves a good look about.. We end up spending any cash we have on us at the burger van normally, It's pretty much all junk.

Just thought I'd bring that crazy thing to people attention as I'd never seen one, Thinking I should have had away with it now lol, But it did look fairly battered and covered in dirt  and couldn't see any cables with it etc.

So no point going to them now? Haven't been to a car boot in years but I'm hoping to start again soon to get some retro stuff. Whats the alternative now apart from the over priced online bidding site?

Charity shops seem best, The biggest problem I find is, people tend to use eBay to check how much a game or console is selling for before they head off to the car boot (hell they do it with anything that looks like it might be worth something) Like I saw a Snes with no cables and no controller.. Guy wanted £20 for it.. Same deal when I found a mega drive.

I dislike car boot sales lol

Yeah i agree charity shops are the best bet and where ive found most my stuff, carboot sales are fierce now if u dont pay to get in early (£5 mostly around here) then i wouldnt bother going as everything would be hoovered up by resellers and other collectors. But if u keep your eye out for local ones that just pop up now and again you might be luckier.

picked up some ps1 games the two wwe games 99p spyro worked out about 20p but its had no disk so got it cheap, manual and cover is mint just no game :( colin mcrea and simpsons wrestling 50p.

The black PS1 dev kit I remember seeing those and drooling as kid.

The good old Net Yaroze, I remember a small shop was selling them for £500 with the selling tag. "Want to make PlayStation games?!?!!?"

Always wanted one, seems a small price to pay compared to indie development now.

I love retro stuff as much as everyone else in here, but do some of you just buy stuff for the sake of it? There's pictures of games in here that OK, might be old and cheap, but are a) not a classic and b) crap! :p

I buy stuff now mainly to either keep as part collection or i just trade it off for stuff i want .I have traded abit on game trader on facebook.I am abit addicted to buying anything cheap lol and do end up with allot of crap.

I have also been buying random stuff from charity shops

For me it's mainly getting the games that I loved when I was younger. I'll get some pictures up here at some stage just don't have anything particularly interesting yet.
