Retro console and games thread

So no point going to them now? Haven't been to a car boot in years but I'm hoping to start again soon to get some retro stuff. Whats the alternative now apart from the over priced online bidding site?

I'm relatively new to car boots (for retro gaming stuff), previous collections over the years I've picked up from either Ebay or local ads (Friday Ad) etc. I've been to a few in the last month, picked up some 'okay' stuff - nothing amazing as yet but some good deals.

I'm not going to write them off too soon though, I'm a big follower of the retro community on Youtube and I know there are some that pick up some great stuff from car boots - a tip I've heard is that some of the smaller (maybe school) car boot sales can be good ones, although I've only been to the more popular ones in this area at the moment.

Locals ads have always been where I've picked up most of my stuff, very cheap mostly and some great deals. All the charity shops around here seem to be overpriced, did pick up Shenmue from one last year though for a few quid - so not all bad.

I love retro stuff as much as everyone else in here, but do some of you just buy stuff for the sake of it? There's pictures of games in here that OK, might be old and cheap, but are a) not a classic and b) crap! :p

Everything I buy falls into one of two categories

Stuff I intend to play.

Stuff that I have the PAL version of and does not have a 60Hz option/doesn't work when forced 60Hz.

For me it's mainly getting the games that I loved when I was younger. I'll get some pictures up here at some stage just don't have anything particularly interesting yet.

This is pretty much what I do (although I also buy games that I may not have played when I was younger that look interesting).

I am not collecting so much as getting what I want to play. :)

Not purchased anything for a while now as we are moving house. Going to be at my parents for a month or so until we complete on our new house and do any work that needs doing (needs Gas central heating installed).

All of my retro stuff is boxed up and I am missing it already. I want to play Fur Fighters damn it!

Had a look around for some games this morning and found this lot for a £1 each, and a non gaming related teddy ruxpin also for a £1

non gaming releated but im a child from the 80's so had to get it for a £1 :)

Just found a tidy copy of worms for saturn for 4.95 delivered BIN! Was rude not to! Never saw a copy of that when the saturn was out in shops. Retrocollect says it is "unusual" title

Lol... Without teddy ruxpin there might not have ever been a Nintendo!
The company which supplied teddy ruxpin to stores in america forced stores to take Nintendo consoles at the same time during the Christmas where teddy ruxpin was hot and Nintendo was an unknown company.

They refused to supply the stores with teddy ruxpin stuff unless the store agreed to take a certain amount Nintendo goods at the same time. A year later no one wanted teddy ruxpin and everyone wanted Nintendo.. In the states.

Bit of a strange coincidence this but went into a charity shop today a few miles from where i got the bear and they actually had the books to go with the bear i got yesterday...freaky stuff only 10p each so got them all no tapes tho.

I went up in the attic today and started making a list of what was up there, some stuff I totally forgot about.

My Pikachu N64 appears to have brown growth in the controller so that will need a complete strip but I did find a Freeloader disc for my Gamecube I didn't know I had :)

Any recommendations for import games now I found it? (it was in with the DDR Mario)

Piccy below just because I was pleased. :)

Just picked up a boxed N64 + 2 controllers and Pokemon Stadium and Transfer Pak, Star Wars Podracer for £20 - local ad. Only annoying thing is it didn't have the Expansion Pak included, I thought it did, turns out it was just the Jumper Pak.

Ive got the urge to play my n64 however i dont have a controller or any games!

What sort of price should i expect to pick up an offcial controller and a couple of games?

Do car boots commonly have this sort of thing, some ebay prices are a bit mixed! I really want majoras mask and the expansion pack thingy, smash bros, mario kart, mario 64 all the gooduns :)

with regards to my deleted post....Maccy, you are quite right. Totally my bad

Kinger you might want to look on the facebook gamestrader group. think pads and games are readily available, even on the bay they are getting better. Alternatively stick a post up in the MM here, a lot of good peeps :)
