BMW Servicing - or lack there of.

Oddly they did the same with me! Just had it in for work doing under warranty a few weeks back, 1k miles until service due and they wouldn't touch it!

I don't think I've ever had a service on the 530i so far where I've not sent it in about 500-1000 miles before its due and they've never even mentioned it

So did you just have to take it back the following month? I don't get it at all!

Yes this is nonsense, I took the mini in for service and oil change far to early (because it was also being MOTd and having some new brakes) they did say it didn't need doing yet, I said please do it anyway, and they did.

Whereas Honda will do a service at any interval I require. Currently at about 2500 miles before service due because I timed it in with the MOT and a necessary brake service last time.

The BMW intervals between oil change is too long in my oppinion anyway, interestingly in the US they have reduced this for many models down to 10k miles, details here: http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=868294

This is just to suit local market tastes though, the Americans are obsessive about oil changes. They also have vastly differing fuel quality (BMW wouldnt sell the N53 engine at all in the US market for this reason).

Here in the UK BMW's have had extended service intervals for at least 15 years now.

You don't have to use a BMW dealership to stay within warranty terms. You are free to use any other company, doesn't matter how small. As long as they are a recognised business and use genuine parts, BMW can't do anything.

Fair points.

I still feel the long service intervals are more to do with being appealing to businesses with company cars rather than whats best for the car. I always do an interim oil change on my E90 as I did on my E46 before.

Fox, do you leave your oil change until the car asks for it or do you change it more regular?

Rofl.

If you think the oil schedules are long, you have to remember that even the airfilter will be skipped for the 1st / 3rd / 5th change, etc, meaning you could go 40k miles without an air filter change. Crazy

I used to get the oil changed every 7.5k miles on the E60 and only reset iDrive every other change. The computer was happy that the oil change was taking place every 15k miles and I was happy that it was more frequent. :p
