With bernard, apparently we bid 16m euros. Which got rejected. They said we can have him for £22m.

But his dad thinks he wants a move to Porto, which I haven't seen them mentioned in the interested parties.

It's certainly not looking good. I'm having flashbacks to every summer when wenger comes out with the "we can challenge" speech.

Yes the team will be stronger, the first time since I can to remember we have kept the players together plus unloaded some unwanted goods.

But...

We aren't going to challenge for anything other than forth place again.

Giroud I think we do better but if he is out or suspended then our front line are all very similar players giving us no plan B. the French kid might surprise but we can't go into the season relying on him.

Wenger said we aren't going to sign anyone before our cup competition. Which then leaves one week to get some players signed and familiar with the squad.

We are spending big three seasons too late. We should have done this when we had stars to draw people in. We can't play hard ball with transfers, we have to take it on the chin and pay what is being asked.

We could have had Higuain £30m, bernard £20m, williams £10m and Caesar £1.5m signed at the start of July. Give or take £65m spent.

But no...

I wonder if we could somehow prise Schweinsteiger out of Bayern's heavily stocked midfield.

That would be so awesome. :(

Or Kroos.

this couldn't have been serious? trolling :p

The only other player I can think of that we've been linked to (barely) is Cabaye, and I don't think he's the answer.

I think he's actually one player in the premiership which has proved he can compete in a top 4 squad. For the right money, the board should seriously be considering him.

I don't believe it. The rumours are starting again, saying that Cesc will be announced as a Man U player on Monday. What a pain in the **** all this is.

**** you. :p

Back that up with something.

Tbf, it's the source who told me that he was flying into London the other day, when he clearly wasn't.

However, I know for an absolute fact that Moyes has been given the green light for a third and final bid at £38m. Still don't think it will move Barca though. They know full well that leaves him open to joining Arsenal for £25m and they don't want that.

In the back of my mind, I cant help but have a niggling feeling that Barca would sell at £35m +, but they know that any bid acceptance would trigger Arsenal's buy back clause. Unless Cesc tells them he definitely wants to go to Man U, then they just cant risk accepting any bids for him. Maybe he wants to go to Arsenal and Cesc's agents are encouraging Man U to bid high enough to get Barca to accept. If that was the case, it would be without doubt, the ultimate football troll of all time.

Or maybe it's how Arsenal are playing it? No point steaming in with the £40m release clause figure. May as well wait, claim no real interest atm, and give Man U enough rope to hang themselves.

If it was a business intelligence competition between Wenger and Moyes, I know which side my money would be on.

It would be so awesome if manyoo bidding for cesc was what made it possible for him to move elsewhere :D

Sunday mirror reporting arsenal are coming in with an improved bid of ....wait for it...£42 million.

Liverpool: we want £55 million
Arsenal: £35 million, no wait £42,000,001
Liverpool: we aren't selling to you under any circumstances
Arsenal: £42.5 million?

Liverpool will crack eventually. Suarez is playing tomorrow. One more show of a lazy, I want out ineptitude and their hand will be forced.

A lot was said about Suarez lack of celebration on Wednesday but people ignore the way the goal came about. In the last few seconds of a meaningless friendly game (that we were already winning), Suarez made the near post burst in an attempt to create something. Lazy, I want out ineptitude?

Wow real bidding £86.3 million for Bale no wait I mean the entire spurs squad :p
Don't believe Real would be stupid enough to bid that much for a one season wonder and Spurs would be stupid enough to turn it down. Score 40 goals this season and then and only then might he be able to command that type of fee.

This is what i don't understand.

It's insane money for a guy who only scored 26 goals.

I'm not saying he's an average player, he's clearly talented, but he's not got any right to command that kind of fee after 1 season which plenty of other players have achieved. You'd be risking a lot to throw that at spurs. He's a welsh international, not a world star presence, his shirt sales aren't going to be anything like Ronaldo who had won the World Player of the year previously, and smashed 42 goals in a league I believe personally was much tougher than the current setup.

Madness.

In this scenario you dont think Barca would suss out where Fabregas wants to go if they sold him?

Barca arent putting him on the open market they would be accepting a bid from Man Utd. I doubt Fabregas would suddenly swoop in and announce that he only want to go to Arsenal. This clause is genuinely irrelevant as far as i can see.

Despite the reports Man Utd HAVE to have been given some encouragement from day one to pursue this. The alternative is too horrific to contemplate.

Bale is worth no more than 50m IMO. As stated above, if he scores 40+ goals this season, then maybe the 80m will be justified. He is no way near as good as ronaldo as of yet. Lets see how he performs this year. Hope not too well for our sakes :)

It is looking like we may not be signing anyone this year. Maybe 1 player. I however am very happy we got rid of loads of deadwood. Need to get rid of a few more yet. If we get rid of the Ivorian and the Dane, I will be happy :D

In all fairness, Oscar was incredible on FM before he moved to Chelsea. If Sports Interactive can work out how good he is, surely Utd could have paid a scout or two to do the same?

(I am NOT saying that people should base how good players are on FM, merely that as SI managed to do it, so should football clubs!)

To be fair its not just how good the player is - its their attitude, history at previous clubs, etc etc (look at a certain Liverpool player for just this reasoning why a lot of clubs wont touch him)

It could also be about money. The transfer fee is not as relevant as the wages these players are asking from day 1. The bigger clubs have a bit of bargaining power (with promise of titles, and playing with "heroes" etc) but if the player coming in still want insane weekly wages, because they think they have already made it - its not that promising for the future. (Of course this could be as much the agent's fault as it is the players)

There is also numerous posts on here about how insane the next wonder player is on FM (or name another footy game of choice), and they don't grow into the player they should be.

Im sure there are a lot more misses / failures in FM than there are the opposite (over the years)

The express this morning is claiming that Utd's new chairman flew back from Aus because of Fabregas' agent stating his player WANTS a move to Utd. No quotes or anything (well it is the express after all lol) but the transfer has been complicated by the arrival of the new Barca manager.

People can go on and on about his stats for the last year or two , but at the end of the day if he doesn't feel like he is being utilized at Barca in the position he wants, he might not be as happy as appearances suggest (starting every match in an un-natural position for his favourite club to HIM may not be as favourable as starting every game in his favoured position elsewhere)
