Real aren't going to become a bigger club on the back of signing Bale nor will there be a noticeable difference in shirt sales, sponsorship agreements etc. I don't understand where people get this idea.

The only times there's a noticeable commercial advantage to signing a player is if a huge name player were to join a smaller club and/or that player's huge in a particular market - a big asian player for example.

I don't think that true though, i think'll you find RM sell a lot of shirts in this country. I think the biggest factor is, he's from Wales. I presume they will sell an extreme amount of shirts if Bales moves, he's an icon in Wales, no? He'll be the first Welsh footballer to play for RM. Historic in footballing terms for them..

I think the majority of shirt sales aren't to older people like me and you as well, the majority will be sold to the under 18 category. And of course it's not just about shirt sales..

I'm pretty sure most of that stuff has been done by a few players, front cover of FIFA?! Isn't the US version Messi and... wait for it... Hernandez?

Trust me, it's true. Clubs don't sell that many replica shirts for a start (certainly not as many as people think) and the direct financial benefit to clubs from additional shirt sales is tiny to non-existent (they sell off the rights to their shirts remember).

How many people in Wales or even the UK as a whole (who wouldn't buy one anyway) are going to buy a Real shirt because they signed Bale? Hardly any.

Real Madrid are Real Madrid. They're one of the biggest, most recognised football club in the world. The scope for them to become even bigger is very small. Had they signed a mega start from China, India etc - a huge potential market that doesn't already have recognised/hugely supported football clubs of their own then fair enough.

Bale's neither massive globally nor does he come from a market that'll make much cash for Real.

Nah, i think Bale is worth more than 20mil a year if you break it down over like 6 years or something. We don't know what their exact plans are..

Break it down. Where's this £120m coming from?

Real's total commercial revenue (all the money they get from sponsors, kit deals, merchandise sales etc) is around £150m per year - increased by around 9% from the last year despite there being no major signing.

Take a guess at the percentage growth in their commercial revenue in the season that they signed Ronaldo, Kaka et al compared to the previous season? 8%.

This idea that signings have a huge impact on major European clubs commercial deals and shirt sales is *******s.

120mil? I said 20mil per season, That was just a figure. I've no idea how much it would be in reality. Like i said, its not just about shirt sales..

£20m a year over 6 years = £120m. And I didn't only include shirt sales, I included all commercial revenue.

There is no branding or commercial reason for Real to pay an extortionate fee for any player, as people have suggested.

It gets brought up every season when a club pay a big fee for a player and it's complete and utter bs.
 
Enough with all this Bale/Fabregas nonsense:p.....Rumour has it that Brighton will be making a few big signing this week, and 'an old favourite' could be returning...my bet is on Elliot Bennett, don't think he is in the frame at Norwich?

Also, we signed Kemy Agustein from Swansea, very happy with that, he is just what we need:)

Did you ignore the part of my post where I provided facts showing that Real's revenue increased no more (it actually increased less) in the season that they signed Ronaldo & Kaka compared to a season where they signed no big name players?

To be fair Im sure Gill was referred to as the chairman rather than CEO, but even so its pretty obvious to most either Fab or his agent (or both) have spoken extensively to Utd.

Strikers (with the odd exception) get the biggest transfers, and while £26/£30 million isn't quite a "joke" imo, you would never go in with your highest figure you can pay in this situation after all, £35-40m is a very good offer for these economicly stretched times we are in.
