The *Official* Eve Online Thread

Anyone outside of KICK taking part in the Alliance Tournament here? We've made it through the first round, however we're up against Hydra next weekend who are arguably the favourites....

No pressure

im stuck with a ship of mine CORAX, my cpu is gettin used up fast. how do i make it bigger and not get used as much and also my copasator is getting used up fast too haha.

To get CPU for your ship:

  • Electronics - train it to 5 for 5% CPU per level
  • Weapons Upgrades - train it for 5% reduction per level in CPU requirements of turrets/launchers
  • Modules - fit a co-processor into a low slot to add CPU
  • Implants - fit an electronics implants, EE-601 - EE-606, for 1% to 6% boost

CAPACITOR skills are in Engineering - skills like Energy Management, Energy Systems Operation, Shield Operation, Shield Upgrades.

If you don't already use EveFit, grab it from here... https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=24359
and try out fits with your character before spending money on parts.

*Sigh*

This is what always happens, I try and join a CORP, I state I don't know much about the game, I need to be hand held a bit to understand what I'm doing and where to go etc... Get all the promises so I join the CORP who is mainly EU and very active... They have like 10-15 players on max (one EU guy), all the alliance play Dust 514 and when I ask what to do by the guy who recruited me I'm told...

"What I'd say to do is google some youtube videos on solo PvP and learn that way."

While I understand what he is trying to say this is no use to me :( Might leave and look for another CORP.

Who did you join? I believe both RvB and Eve Uni teach you how to pvp at a basic level. Not sure how restrictive they are from then onwards though (I get the impression RvB gets a bit repetative and Eve Uni is a bit restricted in where you can go or something?)

I was in Space Marine Academy a few years ago and they did in depth lessons on how to manually pilot, how to approach safely, some comms discipline etc. They were *hugely* restrictive in how it worked though. Always be on comms, be in fleet, run missions with other people and not on your own. Don't undock if wardecced. But they did teach stuff well.

Perhaps someone like them might be worth a look to pick up the basics and then join RvB or some faction warfare guys?

BetaMax Beta I think I joined lol, name says it all really!

Yea' Red vs Blue got very boring quick when I played it before.

I'll have a look at your old CORP, I struggle though as I don't enjoy PvE in most games let alone Eve but I'm guessing I have to start somewhere though... Again though I just find myself sat in a hanger doing nothing :(

It can be challenging to find a decent corp, a 0.0 corp could be a good place to learn, get yourself 10-12 million sp's and most will accept you. You should be able to fly a BS and HAC well so you are useful from the get-go.

Check the 0.0 Alliance killboards to try and learn what doctrine is currently fashionable and skill up towards those skills. Lurk in a Corp Public channel for a few days, see if it is busy it can be a good indication of corp activity.

Speak with the recruitment officers even if you don't meet the grade now, you should be able to get a steer to where you need to head to. Some 0.0 Corps offer a training corp which can be a great place to start. Faction Warfare is a good option for cheap PvP and offers an excellent way to make ISKies.

Faction Warfare can be a little chaotic in organisation, so don't always expect for someone to arrange fleets etc, sometimes its best to take the initiative yourself.

Golden Rule, don't fly what you cannot afford to lose. Once you accept your ship is already dead in PvP you are well on the way to a successful PvP career, if you make it back in one piece it was a bonus.

Above all... have fun! :)

I'm currently gearing up my CORAX for lvl2 missions, I'm pretty close to getting this setup, I'm just waiting 4 days for Light Missiles 5 to finish for the lvl2 launchers.

Yea I'm up to about 13 mil SP and this is where I struggle because I have that SP but know nothing about the game due to leaving and coming back. I can fly a nice range of ships I think, I'm Minmatar only and can fly Wolf/Jaguar/Hurricane/Maelstorm/Hound with a range of T2 fittings, I have over 8Mil SP in gunnery.

Yea that's a good idea looking at the killboards, I'm currently skilling towards T2 cloaking device at the moment.

The training corp is prob the best way to go, I've seen a few about so I guess I'll leave my current one and go from there.

Yea I'm going to stick to cheap ships until I have half a clue as to what I'm doing lol :)

I'm not sure how different they might be since I was with them. When I was there it was mostly Americans in the academy, but the UK players were fairly active in the parent corp (non-academy) I believe.
I'd recommend being honest that you are just their to learn some PvP basics and to go from there. They were a helpful bunch when I was there even though they didn't quite have the same interests that I had.

I'm sure there must be active UK corps that will train up new players and keep you interested in the game if you like PvP. Might be worth asking around in chat channels such as the Rookie help channel and Eve Uni?

Didn't know about those 2 channels, I'll have to join them tonight and ask around. I know the CORP I want to get to in the end but I need more experience before they'll let me in their training CORP.

Thanks for the advice again.

Anyone on here mentions those stupid bee-fags and I will hunt you down in EVE...we lost the biggest fight in EVE History...we fought tooth and nail to keep 6DVT, Goons secured ALL the moons in the system so we couldn't fall back and regroup...I'll admit, they outplayed us...the Bee-fags outplayed the Dino's...*sad face*

eve online for me?

On paper Eve online sounds like my ideal game, its got space and is a sort of sandbox game, never really played mmorg though and i would class me as a casual gamer, maybe only able to game an hour a day, maybe 2.

Is.it.for me?
