Possible Psu Problem

As I can`t use my PC at the moment, as I am swapping the 2500k for a 3770k, I thought I would put together a temporary system.
So using a GB P35-DQ6, a Q6600 GO and 2x2 OCZ DDR and a 612S cooler. Got it all built up, using the Psu in my sig and then I hit a snag. The fan on the cooler quickly spins up(then stops), the rear chassis fan just about turns(led light is just a flicker). The Psu fan turns over, then stops, if I leave it, it is just an endless cycle. Changed the ram for 2 other sticks, even tried with just 1 stick, same thing. So, I have power for about 10 seconds. Tried another 500W no name Psu, this only had a 4 pin Cpu power connecter, the board needs an pin, but I get the same result as before.
I have nothing else connected, no Gpu, hdd or optical drive. I have removed the Cmos battery, but I doubt that will help in any way.
Now my Psu was working this morning prior to me taking out the Cpu. And tbh, I have rarely heard the fan spin, certainly not as loud as it is now.
I`m going to take it all out later tonight, although I don`t think it is shorting.
I will check the pins behind the Cpu, to make sure there are no bent or damaged pins. The Cpu came installed when I bought it on the MM, 18 months later I finally get round to building it.

if the board has an 8 pin cpu socket you can use half of it with the 4 pin plug on psu

done a cmos/battery out for 30 minutes?

Already tried it with the 4 pin on the cheap Psu, but I get the same results. That is way I am wondering, if it might not be the Psu.

Cmos battery has only been out about 10 minutes.

if the cpu cooler/heatsink has a backplate could try loosening it off a little

Just tried outside the case. No cooler, 2x2GB ram and a 9500GT, Stlll exactly the same.
Just can`t understand, how 2 Psus known to be working, can`t power up continuously when connected to this motherboard.

Chip arrived this morning and Psu is OK( says I, with a sigh of relief). So that means a problem with the mobo.

I'd check I was on the latest BIOS. Manually set the RAM voltage, trying 1.5V first. If tinkering with the RAM settings doesn't help I'd have to start looking for maybe a bent pin in the socket

try clearing the cmos again then add in the two sticks of ram

EDIT: I see you've got it working, does it show dual channel in cpu-z though?

He is now talking about his current rig fella which he is swapping an i7 into. Looks like the old mobo he got off the MM a while back is toast :(

Tried the sticks in slots 1&2. Got into the bios and shows 8GB. Went into windows, opened up CpuZ and it all so shows 8GB in slots 1&2.

@ hono, have had the latest bios for ages and the board came with 3 bent pins.:D But they are only associated with onboard graphics, which the Sabretooth does`nt have.

so it shows running in dual channel in cpu-z? single channel is no good(if its saying single)

ohh and arnt you tempted to straighten those pins?

Dam, showing as single. I can`t understand why they wont work in dual channel mode with the new chip. I`m at a loss.

In regards to the bent pins, they are as straight as I can get them and are not making any contact with any of the other pins. And as I said earlier, they are only for the onboard graphics. Besides the mobo has run perfectly for nearly 2 years.

aslong as your sure they are for onboard, don't forget the 3770k is different to the 2500k

hyperthreading ect

bent pins usually = memory issues, same as overtightened cpu cooler/flexing motherboard

done a cmos clear yet? it could be messed up slightly from your old cpu being in there

dual channel and two sticks is always slots 2 and 4

0 1 0 1

1 being ram stick installed 0 being empty
