I've currently got a GA-Z68A-D3-B3 running 2x120GB Agility3 drivers in RAID0 and would like to look at adding another 2 to expand out the disk space.

I started to look at PCIe based RAID cards but they start to get pricey for performance and thought it might be worth looking at a new motherboard with 4 native SATA3 ports.

From my understanding most almost always split the ports over two chipsets, which will stop me being able to use RAID0 on a hardware level.

Anyone got any ideas on what option to take and any recommendations on mobos or raid cards.

Cheers

** EDIT **

Just to add another reason to go for the mobo is to add option for SLI in future, not a requirement but its just another +point on the mobo option.

4 SSD's in RAID 0 isn't really a good idea man. Especially OCZ SSD's :/ in my own experience they're not the most reliable.

If you're looking to expand the number of SATA3 ports I'd look at getting a Z77 mobo, I throughly recommend the ASUS Gene V it's a cracking board with plenty of features.

RAID cards can be a bit unpredictable I bought a ASUS US36 to try, it uses a ***** controller which completely ruined read/write performance of the drives I tested. This was while I had Z68, since upgrading to Z77 I have the additional SATA3 ports I need :)

I know why you've mentioned this, but i'm not worried about the risk of data loss as this machine is purely my gaming rig and worst case it means reinstalling the OS and Games which is something I end up doing every couple of months anyway.

I'll take a look at that board but pretty sure it will be out of my price range, plus don't think i'll want/need any of the additional features.

Chipsets are certainly the bit i'm worried about when it comes to picking a raid card :D

Costs already seem pointless, might just go for 2x240GB 840 EVOs and shift my current SSDs into other rigs.

Just wanted to 'play' with 4xRAID0 :D
