The *Official* Eve Online Thread

We highly expect Gewns to come and try to take Delve next. Hopefully we will be more prepared and NC. along with PL won't be too busy to come help the big boys defend the homeland...

I bet they will once they get comfortable and set in fountain. a big enemy entity like test next door is not good for stability. Be prepared! and good luck!

And grats on making gaming history! win or lose its an amazing feat to take part in.

Arg, need to resist re-subbing, each time I log in, earn a little bit of isk - skill up for a couple of months & let it un-sub...

A shame really, as I've got a 15m SP alt, & 1 80m SP & 1 60m SP fighters (All combat) - almost tempted to go back to low-sec to hassle some people with piracy, I just can't PVE in EvE - being playing since 05 & never been able to stick at it unless I'm killing other players.

Well I joined another CORP, possibly smaller than the last CORP I was in but it was active and there was about 10 of us on team speak gate camping and roaming.... One of the dudes was going off solo and lost a 3B Tengu lol... I stupidly followed him next time he went roaming and we engaged someone (me being new wasn't really sure what was happening other than I was smashing someone) then the guy I was with warps away ( I didn't notice and he didn't mention anything ) and I lost my 50-70 mil fitted Wolf :( Not too fussed though, I know don't fly what you can't afford to lose but more annoyed he didn't say he was warping out as I could have gotten away. Was strange though he killed me and podded me and I got a mail saying I got some ISK as I killed him?

What tips are there for finding players to gank solo?

Saw the story about the recent massive ruckus and it has tempted me to give EVE a try. Always been put off by MMOs/RPGs except for the Sci-Fi ones (KOTOR being one of my favourite RPGs.....in fact one of my favourite games!). Would I be able to get enough of a feel for the game with the free 14 day trial?

If you use the reference link from the ISK Guide site then you can get a 21 day trial. Try the game out for 21 days and then if you like it see if you can buy an EVE starter pack for sale online. I did this and bought the Gallente starter pack on Gamersgate for £3.70 and so have 51 days total plus some extras from the pack all for a few quid.

I'm enjoying the game so far and will probably sub, but if not then a few quid for a month and a half of something new and different is a pretty good deal.

I have not had a real chance to use my Naglfar since that fight we had Rrof and Pink. Not been many cap fight escalations! Im itching!

The guys have been getting good fights ive just been so busy at work to get on and play :(

Covert ops alt is a must, either controlled by you or a friend if you want to secure kills & escape with your ship intact - that's if you want to actually make money with piracy as opposed to just kill people.

It also allows you to probe mission runners for ransoms & such, you also need somebody who isn't assumed immediately hostile (negative sec status) to jump in first to find any targets.

I used to triple account, my main & two cloaked scouts - 99% of the time I used them to sit in nearby systems so I had warning of blobs coming to gank me & the odd time use the ECM to evade log-on traps/hotdrops long enough to warp off.

I've been playing on & off for some time, it's most certainly a game worth the investment - the key is to stick it out long enough to learn the basics (as it's a little over-whelming for new players).

The key thing to accept to enjoy the game is the concept of actual loss (in a game sense).

I've not even took my main back to the wormhole since then due to my playtime + alliance tourney. Not enough hours in the day!

+1 you need a lot of time to be able to sink into it I gave up playing for this reason, was finding I was logging on setting up my training queue then either mining for an hour or doing 1 mission as that was all I had time for due to the number of jumps needed to get to the encounter zone. Plus tbh when you get to zero sec space you really need hours at a time every day

That's what killed it for me, actually it's what's killed most MMOs for me in the past 5 years, you need a huge amount of time to sink into them to really enjoy them to the extent that it starts to feel like a second job. The only exception recently has been Minecraft and Guild Wars 2, both of which were rewarding in small sections.

Must admit I only really still play Minecraft though.. :p

I have no idea why more people are not playing age of wulin, has the same sort of skill levels (and learning curve) as EVE, but with kung fu! If youre time poor (and presumably therefore able to buy VIP status) you can do quite a bit of 'levelling' offline - there are no levels by the way, its way too complicated. In fact ill start a thread about it later, which will no doubt disappear in a day.

I spent 10 years on EVE it had its good times and its terrible times, but over all its a game of spreadsheets.

PVP is also a chore in some respects, because everything takes time and ISK no one is willing to commit to a fight half the time.

Every way you look at EVE it all comes down to a massive timesink really. I'm done with it after 10 years and probably will never go back unless something massive changes in game.

Saw a report that there was a massive battle lastnight involving around 5000 players which about 2000 ships were destroyed... sound epic but I could not get around the learning curve, seemed to complex even for things that should be simple and for me that made it pretty boring.

Did you also note that the game speed was slowed to 10% so the servers could handle the cluster ****, even then watching videos of it it was horribly laggy at 10%
