The *Official* Eve Online Thread

When it comes down to it, EVE is a game of menus. Plus you have the learning curve of death:

Waste of time for you. Don't bother.

+1 you need a lot of time to be able to sink into it I gave up playing for this reason, was finding I was logging on setting up my training queue then either mining for an hour or doing 1 mission as that was all I had time for due to the number of jumps needed to get to the encounter zone. Plus tbh when you get to zero sec space you really need hours at a time every day

probably not for you :p

seriously though, 1-2 hours per day is more than enough if you wanted to. Let me know if you want an extended 21 day trial - email in trust

I have to agree with this, EVE has always been a better idea and prospect than a reality for me.

These people claiming eve takes time boggles me, u will unfortunately never catch up to anyone playing longer than you because the whole leveling aspect has no skill to it at all its a time based reward.

As for the fact u only get an hour or two a night, surely that makes this the ideal mmo for him as it does all the research and upgrades whilst u are logged off anyway? Its the sort of game you can sub to for a year and only have to log on a few times to set the next bit of research no?

Meh, the learning curve isn't that bad compared to a few other games I've played, but if you haven't played these games (DF, Aurora etc) then I would guess it's going to be tough. Steer clear if you don't have time!

Haha bad luck Jaffa. Moon cover is definitely the thing to have when you want to invade. We've done a wormhole invasion when we've been unable to setup a POS and it took an insane amount of effort. Was satisfying to pull off though. Can't see it happening with that many people involved without a huge advantage though!

On paper Eve online sounds like my ideal game, its got space and is a sort of sandbox game, never really played mmorg though and i would class me as a casual gamer, maybe only able to game an hour a day, maybe 2.

Is.it.for me?

It could be, but it certainly isn't for everyone. Give it a trial and see what you can make of it. It's not a sandbox in the same way as some people describe open ended games like GTA, it is literally a sandbox - you only get out what you put in. If you can't be bothered to try fun things you'll be bored stiff.

I'd say Eve is more suited to 2 3-4 hour sessions a week rather than a daily hour or so. Most of the more fun activities potentially need a bit longer to get involved in fully.

Ignore anyone who says to avoid the game because you'll never be able to catch up with experienced players. Whilst completely true in terms of raw skillpoints it's equivalent to saying you'll never be older than one of your parents. You can still specialise and be as good or better in a small amount of time if you set appropriate goals - say mastering piloting frigates in PvP. Probably within 2-3 months player skill/tactics will make a significantly bigger difference than your characters skills.

That sounds fun!!!

market orders, but playing the market is part of the game. 1-2 hours per day is plenty of time to run missions, do some mining, trade with an industrial, look for noobs in lowsec, run some wormhole sites... whats yer beef?

sometimes 15 minutes of keeping on top of market orders is all it takes:

We highly expect Gewns to come and try to take Delve next. Hopefully we will be more prepared and NC. along with PL won't be too busy to come help the big boys defend the homeland...
