How safe are those WW2 planes really?

Would you ride as a passenger in a P-51? Flown by an amateur owner? I have the opportunity to fly in one (for $1600) and i'm really tempted but looking on google and youtube they seem to crash a lot.

People aren't going to be posting videos of these flying safely - they would be too boring. As doofer pointed out, these things are kept airworthy as a labour of love and will be just as safe as anything else you would fly in.

Its a bucket list entry if ever there was one. Go for it.
