How safe are those WW2 planes really?

Training version?

see, i thought that, the tp-51c were modded for duel control but are very rare.

The ones in cosimo's vids dont look like duel control, more like it has been stripped out at the back to fit a passenger, doing that to a p51 would be sacrilege.

Yeah if its an Allison walk away.Or bale out if you only notice once airborne...;)

Nothing wrong with the Allison engine, it powered many successful fighters during the war. In the Early versions of the Mustang it was lacking a supercharger which caused it lose performance at high altitude.

are you sure its a p-51, they are single seat fighter/bomber escort's.

where are you going to sit?

Twin seat trainer variant ;)

To knowledge there were no two seat trainer versions built. They just removed the fuselage fuel tank and the installed a second seat behind the pilot in the space left.

Twin seat trainer variant ;)

it wont be a variant. there were only 5 of those to be made.

after a bit of research it will more likely be a " Cavalier Mustang" which was made by a company called Trans-Florida Aviation who bought the trade name from north american.

im sure a few could argue its not a true p-51

A friend of mine has flown in the P51 at Duxford, he said it was incredible, so if you get the chance, go for it!

Where abouts are you doing this? I assume its in the US as the cost is in dollars?
One of my bucket list was to take a trip in a two seat spitfire but I have been looking around the web for ages and there is nothing available even though there are a couple of two seater in the country
I very briefly met Carolyn Grace at an airshow a few years ago and tried to give her a bit of my natural charm, unfortunately rather unsuccesfully :D

Anyhoo I guess a merlin powered P51 is the next best thing and I could tie it in with a trip to the states, especially if its around Vagas as a lot of the old war birds seem to be

Go for it !

A few years back I had a flight in a Extra EA-300 with the Microlease Aerobatic Team. The pilot took us through the full stunt routine, I'm glad the buffet was afterwards :D

Would you ride as a passenger in a P-51? Flown by an amateur owner? I have the opportunity to fly in one (for $1600) and i'm really tempted but looking on google and youtube they seem to crash a lot.

You had me hyperventilating at 'amateur'. It's all I can do on commercial flights not to demand to see the pilot's credentials, flight history and other supporting documentation to support my decision to put my life in his terrible hands.

Two seater conversion of P-51D, most likely.

Beautiful 1200x800 pic of such an aircraft in spoiler tags.

edit: Assuming of course that there is even the remote possibility that kwerk does have this opportunity and isn't just speculating what it would be like out loud.
